Anyone heard of UB(F)factory?

I got my second watch QC photos today and the dial was properly aligned. There was a small flaw with the upper SEL, it looked chipped. But I'll take it for the dial to be correct.

Here's two QC photos of second watch. Already GL'd it, just posting so others can get a sense of the flaws that might show up. The chip in the SEL is the upper right gap.

Got mine in the mail today and was surprised by the incredible shipping speed. It took literally two days from Hong Kong to the middle of the US. Crazy.

Honestly I am a little disappointed - but only because of the bracelet. Compared to my 116610 ARF V2 (904L) the bracelet is awful. The clasp has lots of play in it so it's loud when pressed on or if you shake your wrist. The links are VERY squeaky when not on the wrist and moved. I've seen people mention a baby oil bath - maybe that will fix it. I had to actually weigh a link I took off to see if it was hollow because it just felt so flimsy (it came in at 2.8 grams which I believe is very close to genuine). The whole watch is 124.9 with all the bracelet links which is only 6 grams less than genuine.

The good new is: It looks great! My only nitpicks: The brushing on the SELs is a bit uneven (it looks more matte towards the center). The coronet engraving on the clasp doesn't quite match up with the indented dots at the tip of each prong (only visible under magnification). The CNC marks on the clasp engraving are pretty obvious under magnification but not at all visible without.

The sunburst dial in person looks great, as does the polish on the hour indices and hands. The winding feel nicer than my other 2824 but some of that may just be that this one is brand new and the other is over a year old. Unscrewing the crown also feels a little nicer than my ARF.

The only thing that makes me want to possibly still buy a gen is the bracelet - but I'll give it some time (and baby oil bath if recommended) and see how I feel.

I certainly complained a lot and then searched to see if genuine owners have similar issues, and they do! (hah!): https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=680460

Both the squeak and the loose clasp are apparently genuine issues. It sounds like the loose clasp is probably not a common issue but it does happen. Squeaking seems pretty common.

i have posted a review of mine, with pics. my clasp has ZERO play in it, and the bracelet is silent now after an oil bath. the weight is the same as my 50 dollar dhgater, but it feels like it was milled from a solid block. no play in the bracelet at all. the two flaws i have noticed is a slightly misaligned number 4 marker, and the printing of the letter R in oyster. i am very happy with it, especially at a 200 USD saving over the ARF.

Thanks for the link - bummer that my clasp sucks I guess. I wonder if there's anything I could do to tighten it up? When it's latched I can press it down probably close to an extra full millimeter. I wonder if maybe putting a couple very small dots of superglue (and letting it dry before closing) on the point of contact would still allow it to close but not let it wiggle.

I see the same issue with the R in OYSTER. But really can only see under magnification.

Another complaint of mine that it also genuine apparently: the uneven polishing on the SELs. It's very obvious on the (assumed) gen from this website's review: https://k8q7r7a2.stackpathcdn.com/wp...ual-39mm-5.jpg

As the lower part of the SEL meets the raised middle part the color of the metal lightens a bit - I assume a polishing thing? These photos are the only "genuine" photos I can find online of this happening though. It's pretty clear in every photo of his review, on more than one OP39.

Also maybe less relevant, but boy do I like the slimness of this watch compared to the submariner. It's so much smoother, the lugs aren't so sharp, there's not a giant sharp bezel, I feel like the crown isn't going to dig into my hand so much when I bend my wrist really far back (has been painful a time or two with the sub). Also the features are just so much more classy - there aren't the giant lume dots, the hands with a silly (though admittedly iconic) shape, it's a beautiful simple shiney bezel, and the case shape in general is much less boxy. I was also very on the fence about getting the sub with date - the cyclops is so ugly (though again iconic). I love the clear sapphire without a cyclops and the dial without a date wheel. I've used my sub to see the date literally twice in the past year (on the rare occasion I was filling out a paper form). I was tempted to buy a genuine sub when I first got my rep instead about a year ago and I'm very glad I didn't at this point.

that's why i like it, its simplicity. i think a 39mm version with only stick markers would be perfect, kinda like a modern, up-sized 5500.

This is probably too late to be helpful but oh well.

The difference is probably in how well finished it is. As much as I complained when I first got my UBF I will probably buy a other OP in a different color eventually. I also prefer Puretime. For those reasons I'd go with the ubf

I finally pulled the trigger and bought one 114300 grape UBF and one 114200 for my girlfriend!
Honestly the dial is really nice. The strap seems light on the 114300 and I don't know if I was unlucky but the strap is badly fixed on the case.
If anyone has a solution by the way?
The 114200 is really nice and the weight of the bracelet is less noticeable.

Hi guys,
really interesting thread I wanna give my contribution.

I start saying UBF OP are now a very smart choice being affordable and having relatively little flaws.
This is true especially if compared to ARF that’s 200 USD more and still has some defects (I’m speaking about 114300).

The only thing to do is deciding with flaw we can live with.
With 114300 we have to choose between incorrect shape of markers on grey/grape/blue ones (squared angles, not 45°) but nothing else noteworthy.

Or we can have great markers with the right shape on white/black

but incorrect lume color (blue and not green)

114200 in green/grape/champagne seems to be flawless:
- right markers
- right lume color (green)
The only thing here is the size that being only 34 mm is not for all.

Best
