Seems like a good place to share this story.
A long time ago a good man hired a young man. His first open-ended full-time contract. Not at all common in his country, at least at that time. The young man started pretty much from the bottom but was soon sent to do multiple tasks. For the first couple of years he didn't even have to ask for a payraise, his boss granted him two out of himself. They became friends and shared a lot of conversations about their jobs and life.
Now, this was a subsidiary of a bigger company from another country. At some point, people from the HQ asked the young man to go abroad, and he accepted. He had the opportunity to travel a bit around the world. His former boss was very happy for him.
Their ways pretty much parted, they spoke maybe once or twice a year and when the former Boss came by the HQ. They made through a couple of corporate mergers luckily unscathed.
Later, as the, now not-anymore-so-young man took on a new position, he had the opportunity to work with his former Boss again. They met more often, worked on the same projects, but mainly, to them, it was just about meeting, talking, joking, laughing about the old times, going out to dinner. They both got fatter...
At some point the "young" man got into watches and the rep world and noticed his Boss always wore a gen blue YM, they got to talk about that, the young sharing some insights of the rep world. The Boss always wanted to have a Nautilus, he tells the younger man.
Later, the Boss went through some rough times, personally and professionally. It was not a good time for him.
The not-so-young man decided to gift him his Nautilus rep, he packed it and sent it to the Boss without telling him anything, but accompanying the parcel with a heartfelt letter.
This is the message the "young" man received after a couple of days:
Dear not-so-young man, the courier has just arrived... I have no words... I wanted to call you to thank you but I'm not sure I can handle a video call... you managed to move me and I didn't expect to feel such a wave of emotions. . thanks both for the watch and for your friendship .. as soon as I manage to compose myself I'll call you.
