I don't know if I'm the only one but...

I think Rolex watches are ugly. I mean, i've tried to like them but ..there's nothing I can do .. I still find them very very very ugly. Is it the peace sign on the arrow? Is it the fact that they all look alike?

I'm a big fan of PAM, AP, IWC, U-BOAT, WELDER, B&R, HB and UN ...but there is no single Rolex that I would wear.

Please tell me i'm on the only onelol :wyliehelp:

The "peace sign" is there so that you can tell the time properly when the hour hand is directly under the minute hand.

The designs are just OK. Very similar to each other and they have not evolved much in 60 years.

Have you given the Milgauss a try? It is the only current model that most will agree "doesn't look like a Rolex"

I, personally, can only tolerate the DSSD, the Classic SD, and the Milgauss.

Yep, boring, ugly and way to overrated if you ask me. I do have one that I use as a beater, but damn, every time I wear it looks so bland on my wrist. Guess it's a marketing thing cause the layman thinks Rolex is forged by Gods, powered by magic fairies and can withstand the end of the world.

Hahaha, this is why people like them.... universal brand recognition. Only Cartier can potentially match Rolex in this sense. My only Rolex is also my beater - old school Sub LV ETA

I like the sub and the Daytona. Some of the others seem like "old man watches" compared to newer styles so I can understand that.

You gotta point there bud. ''Brand recognition''. That's what Rolex is all about.

Me at the bar: Dude, look at my new PAM
Friend: Looks sharp man .. wtf is PAM?
Me: Uhhhhh ... only a 150 years old brand watch
Friend: My dad has a Rolex .. he rocks!
Me: Facepalm.

The end lol

Rolex's are understated and somewhat boring.

Half the ones you mentioned on the other hand are garish and tacky and smack of desperation in their design. (All Pimped, Ho blot and U bloat).

I agree with you too. I have a watch for every suit I wear and every casual outfit as well. I just dont see myself with a Rolex, i'd rather like to have a nice IWC or a nice Pam.

Rolex are quality and function with quite a few different designs to appeal to many different types of people. They don't follow the latest trends, which usually end up an embarrassment a year later.

What I don't understand is Panerai. You've got two basic watch styles, the luminor and and the marina or whatever the one with the ugly crown guard is. Then you put in 50 different dials and turn the crown guard upside down or backwards and call it a new model. Most of the hand winds are iterations of a very inexpensive ETA 6497 hand wind or an ETA 7750/53 and you then sell a $300 watch for $7,000.

And you wonder why it's so easy to replicate a 99.9% Chinese copy? To me, that whole brand is bizarre. Biver or whatever the president of Panerai's name is, must be laughing all the way to the bank.

And don't get me started on those ugly Hu Blow and U-boat abominations.

You have taste, or you don't. You can't buy it. But you, definitely, can buy Welder...

I do agree with you about Panerai. I'm still new in this watch world and im still having trouble to see the difference between their models...

For Hublot and U-boat, I guess its just taste, you do like it or not. Same for Rolex ;)

I think that Panerais look fine, but I wouldn't pay the gen prices even if I could afford it. Rolex are timeless and elegant. They will always be elegant. You can't say the same for a Hublot or a U-Boat, or even an AP, which to my eyes, look like steaming piles of turd.

Rolex slammers.......

Try to run for public office wearing a Pam, Hublot, or U-Boat. No dice, you loose. Try to sell some house or real estate wearing a Pam, Hublot, or U-Boat. Most buyers wont trust you. Sorry no sale. Try to wine and dance a princess or countess from whatever country wearing a Pam, Hublot, or U-Boat. See later alligator. Adios! Try to address the United Nations wearing a Pam, Hublot, or U-Boat, Ha !! Hey, hey, wait, I'm not finished with my speech here! Try to be a real good honest and downright professional doctor, lawyer, architect, nuclear scientist, 'nobel laureate to be' kind of guy wearing a Pam, Hublot, or U-Boat, oops sorry sir, but we must have the wrong guy, what was your name again sir??? In all of the above scenarios, AND in real life, a simple Rolex Air-King, would have transformed you into the shot caller. The buck simply stops with a Rolex. Like no other watch can. Before, yesterday, AND today. Don't knock it if you DONT GET IT.

I get it, but all the big shots all know what a u-Boat, Pam, and Hublot is, so they all trust each other when they wear one. A common man will only recognize a rolex though.

Most big shots would hardly recognize a Rolex on your wrist. Only forum nuts like us even look at watches.

Recognizing a Rolex........

If you don't recognize a Rolex from 20 feet away............sorry, but you're no big shot, big shot wanna be maybe, nope far from it. That's just how it is, we can not change that. It is just the way it is. Has been like that for over 50 big shot years. Cheers
