stopping power
A very vague term.

I'm against public ownership of guns, by the way, what with the fact I'm British. They cause more deaths and crime than they solve.

Having said that, are you looking for an Automatic or a Revolver?

I'd go with a 9mm auto if I were you, especially if you're looking for something concealable: the profile of an automatic is much slimmer. I'd consider something like the HK P2000 in 9mm. You don't need to worry about 'stopping power' when you can loose off a few rounds exceedingly efficiently.

Hey Pugs, The criminals will always have the guns why shouldn't the non criminals. BTW hand gun crime is down in every state that has a conceal and carry law. You know why that is? Because you never know who else has a gun in their car so you're less likely to use it.

I am fortunate enough to live in a state within the U.S. that allows 'concealed carry' if you go take a training class you can carry a concealed hand gun and also if someone breaks into your home here you can shoot them at free will with no worries.

We had a case here just a few weeks ago where a family was attacked by a home invasion in the middle of the night, a guy kicked in their door and came in intending to do who knows what - the owner simply shot him in the face, case closed, justice is served.

Bigshooter. We had the same thing happen here where I live. A gentlman who has a very extensive gun collection and the man is actually crippled and confined to a wheel chair...3 armed home invaders broke down his door while he and his wife were home. He heard his wife screaming and he wheeled himself in the room armed and shot all the perpetrators...

That must've been Charles Bronson. Or Chuck Norris. Hm, maybe both. :?
However, as far as I know, the P2000 is lacking the most important thing a gun should have next to the striker: the safetylever. Get yourself a USP. Or maybe a G36 C with a 200 round-drum, that should fit if some punks should ever come into your home... :?

I had for many years a STAR PD .45ACP

Super lightwieght, easy carry, super potent (all it hit stayed hit! ).

Unfortunately very hard to source now.

But for your needs go small size, lightweight, and BIG caliber

THEN put in the hours and the rounds

I'm not entering into the debate. It's not going to be won by anyone here.

As far as I remember, the back arch of the handle is the safety. It cannot be triggered unless you hold it right.

I believe that the USMC issues USP COMPACT to its troops. Not 100% sure on that, but a buddy of mine who was a marine sniper has one, says it an awsome handgun. I dont own a gun personnally, so I am not real well versed in them.

It was a glass patio door.....

Tulsa homeowner shoots and kills intruder
AP - 1/16/2005 6:46 PM - Updated 1/18/2005 11:39 AM
TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- A 51-year-old Tulsa homeowner shot and killed a 16-year-old burglar who entered his home.

Sergeant Tim Bracken says Tulsa Police received a call about 11:20 Saturday evening from a home in the 6700 block of East 26th Place.

The homeowner -- Robert Spencer -- was asleep in bed when he was awakened by the sound of glass breaking. Bracken says Spencer then saw a shadow come into his bedroom, so he fired one shot which struck the juvenile in the cheek.

The boy then ran outside the home and collapsed in the back yard where he was later pronounced dead.

The juvenile was identified as 16-year-old Billy Joe Hardridge of Tulsa.

The homeowner wasn't arrested.

Bracken says the case will be presented to the district attorney for review.

However, he says it is unlikely any charges would be filed against Spencer.

Ols school please-Colt Combat Commander 45ACP, small w/stopping power. Being able to fire afew rounds is nice, when you have the time. Go with what they teach in Sniper School, one shot, one kill.. Sorry but we both go out on shoots monthly in our house. :D

And you can counterpoint with all the kids taking guns to school, killing their friends or accidental deaths at home ...

Quoting instances where a gun saved lives doesn't end a debate this old and does nothing but get the thread closed. Don't make it political.

Puqwash - you were the first one to respond to this thread and the first one to make a politcal statement.

Now that I can argue against. :D

YOU DO NOT HAVE ANY RIGHTS TO SAY WHAT YOU LIKE HERE.

The rights of freedom of speech don't cover this sort of thing, much like you can't claim free speech on shouting fire in a crowded theatre. You need to look up what the freedom of speech really means. :D

Allright I will give you that one, and for the record I only own a few guns and I grew up around guns in the countryside and was taught total respect for them at all times.

Back in my day we used to travel 8 miles to high school and we would have our shotguns in the car with us and would leave early and walk a few thicket draws for pheasants on our way to school.

We would not have dreamed in a million years of using a gun against someone, a fistfight and an apology later was about as bad as it got when I was in school.

Gun violence is real but for the millions of us who have a heritage of shooting sports and would never harm anyone that did not intend to harm us first we see it from a different perspective.

go with an other 357, you can load 38s, and save money, the 357 has plenty of stopping power, Leave the dsigner guns (HK) alone, hell you drop one and it might break. Colt or S&W good stuff.

I agree, but in the same vein, I don't know any Chefs that say it should be ok to walk around a city at night with a Sabattier in your hand.

Interesting how the oppinions between europeans and americans seem to part.

I am still glad, I live in a country where guncarrying is heavily restricted - the chance to get shot is way below winning jackpot in the lottery. And no, the bad guys don't carry guns here either, because their "victims" do not have any. Second: If they should be stupid enough to fire a gun here there would be an army of welltrained and armed policeofficers on them in no time.

Guns do not kill people, but people do? I'm not sure if I would be able without a gun and I was trained to do so.
Its a tough job to do, you know...

I don't wanna offend, just my oppinion.

Well I'm from Texas and everyone carries guns here....LOL

I have a concealed gun license and pack a 9mm everyday. I've never had any trouble concealing this weapon.

Glock has a nice .40 caliber...model G27...but I would suggest the extra finger addition on the handle....especially if you have larger hands.

It has been my sidearm during my service in the german forces. You can definately drop it or put a nail into a wall. It is a tool weapon, precise and tough.

People own guns and people dont. I do not own real guns, just fake ones. armpieces scare me and my brother the doctor has stated that he's seen more accidental gun wounds than serious "stab in teh back i kill you!" gun wounds.

That being said though, my soon to be father in law in Mississippi owns LOTS of guns spread all abouts his house... his extended family and wife and aunts - you name it - most carry handguns. Then the whole state of texas too...

Self protection so they say - i wont argue against a whole state armed to the teeth :) ... and i rather not mess with the soon to be father in law :)

To each their own.

Cybee: i think something light - i've seen many cops with a HK something - i cant remember (i just remember some guy modding it to fire like a submach) - its small and since the handle is of strong plastic, very light - but uses .9mm so it has stopping power.

ps: i also have to admit, there are AREAS of the US that is a sh*thole and crime up the wazoo. even places in falujah had better days.
