I opened a new account and bid.

Hahahaha, good one..!

They knew damn it well it was a fake. Saying they'll still take £400 for it. If it was a gen there would be no reason to say this.

I think that was a cracking idea and we should go on mission to do it for every fake auction. Make a new hotmail account, Set up a new ebay account with fake details, win the auction with silly bids then leave feedback very clearly stating the watch is a fake and obviously never pay...!

In fact, we can just do them all off one account until the sellers start blocking the account fro bidding for it having too many negative feedbacks or whatever.

Look, here's another one:-

I'm setting up an account right now, Lol.

Further to my suggestion above, I have a new account, this is my user name:-

iysfoeiwsy

See if you guys can guess what it stands for, Lol.

I am now the highest bidder on the link I posted above and I'm quite sure I will continue to be the highest bidder until the end. Again, Lol.

That of course, unless Orson wants to enter a bidding war with me.

You really did that, then called them on the serial number just to bust them?
So offer 399 lbs since he'll refuse it.
Better yet, do what the guys do who re-scam the Nigerian email scammers: ask him to send you 600 since you need to log activity on your paypal account, then you'll send him back 1000. Wait, did I just give you the motivation to do something wrong? Um...not my idea. I just read about this stuff on the web. I'd never condone it. Bad thing. Be good.

Caution would be wise, an error could make oneself the aggressor against someone themselves victim of a scam. Perhaps dozens of request for serials is the way to go.

Sarah/Richard did not respond to questions about serial nor innocent request for pictures. No high value items showed in feedback. Subsequently the Sarah ebay post, photobucket and "Richard" email all ended '2201' - I doubt that adult siblings would copy signature endings so it is reasonable to believe it to be one person.

I would not normaly respond in such a way but when I found myself moaning "ebay should do something" it occured to me that if I saw someone robbed in the street I most probably would have a go; somehow the annonimity of the internet seems to supress this.

However, having joined this forum I realised that this place is a community in the true sense of the word. As a newby ready to send my cash to an unknown on the other side of the world you guys are in a way "looking out" for me.

That's valuable.

If the winning bid had been from the states or elsewhere the money would most likely never be recovered. I set up an address within a few miles of the seller that would be an intimidation so it was highly improbable that they would think they could get away with it.

They then admitted it was fake.

Spoof ebay accounts are against the ebay rules but my action was 'spur of the moment' so take care and be carefull not to go overboard with this.

I agree, but in the past year I have watched at least 10 fake Tag Heuer Carrera go for nearly £1000 or even above. I have reported every single one.

I think this type of watch is particularly bad because of the type of person who buys it. Don't get me wrong, I love the watch and have one myself but it is a name and a watch that recognised by people who aren't into watches and as a result, posers by it.

This means they do not know how to spot a fake and seemingly don't have the inclination to find out before throwing £1000 away and most i've seen on Ebay have been been obvious, some ridiculously so.

They are always private listings so I cannot message the bidders.

Anyway, of course, I will proceed with caution if I chose to do this, I realise people can be innocently selling a fake.
