Interesting. Some 3 weeks ago I decided to get a Swiss 6497 for my base 202a Pre-V build as all other parts were rather expensive (FGD dial, heavily modified 111J case etc) and I decided I'd go for a real deal and make this one a special one. Got this 6497 from Tourby at 300$, with all mods done (polished H3, properly removed seconds).
Assembled it all early last week and have been wearing it for the past 5 days. Here are some key things I noticed to date, comparing it with my previous build with the high-beat plat movement I got from Josh for 110$:
1. Gen ETA as a little bit smoother to wind - but just a little bit. Unless you know which once you are winding, it feels almost identical.
2. Gen ETA's noise level is again identical to that of the rep movement. Not to noisy but not quiet either. No difference on this one whatsoever
3. Accuracy - better on Josh's movement OTB. Had to open open the CB twice to adjust the beat and now got it to about +/- 15 seconds per day which is fine by my standard. Never had to adjust anything on rep movement.
4. Power reserve - gen ETA runs out of steam in 51 hours on full wind. Rep one goes on to 56 hours, beating the gen movement, so you get almost 10% more power reserve for 30% of the gen price tag.
Well I am kind of thinking the only thing I am unsure of is how long will the rep movement last but other than this, it beats the heck out of the gen article and I wil probably just buy another 2-3 from Josh and keep them in stock should any of my other reps die in the coming years.
