'BBQ' as a watch nickname.....?! I don't think I'd fit in very well over at Ristii--which is just as well now that I'm going to buy a fake 360. What to call a fake BBQ360?...... what to call it..... what to call it...... how about 'Slow Cooker 360', or 'toasted 360', maybe 'Sauted 360'..... 'under-cooked360'?

Haven't heard back from Davidsen yet and I'm getting impatient. It's been minutes, for heaven's sakes.......... Where is he............

I'm curious as to why the repping of this watch is considered 'taboo'. Anyone kind enough to explain?

Many people are giving this watch magical status because of the reason why it was created.

As far as I am concerned. It is a watch, a nice looking watch nothing more.

Should I choose to get the rep of it, I'd be buying it for those reasons.

For some reason others are treating it as a gift from the Panerai gods, and it is sacred.

No, it's not being treated as a gift from the gods. What the watch *IS* is a celebration of Paneristi.com's 10th anniversary - that is to say a tribute to Panerai fans around the globe. That's the reason why some people, myself included, didn't want to see it repped.

If it was just another Panerai Special Edition, no problem. But this is a watch for all the fans of the brand, not just another ploy by Richemont to pocket a few bucks. That's the difference to my mind.

You're free and welcome to disagree with that position.

It's the nickname the watch was given over at 'Risti.

BBQ is the nickname for Bob Quapaw.
The BBQ360 was built as a tribute to him and to the "Community" of people on paneristi.com.

That's why this watch sturrs up so much emotion.
If it wasn't for that... it's just another LE.

No, I'm sorry but that is just plain wrong, DSN has disappointed me in bringing this out.
It's not even a good rep, that case back is crap for starters.

Talk about stirring up the shit. The good folk at 'risti have every reason to be upset about this and TBH I'm not happy about DSN selling it here, I would much prefer he didn't. How would we feel if we did an RWI watch and a dealer reped that? This is going to cause trouble for the rep community, mark my words. 'risti will be feeling like they have been kicked in the guts with this.

I understand the thought of not being disresprectfull towards the good "ristis", but that said I can't help feeling a bit like; if we consider repping this particular model, as a very distinct and conspicuous action, then we kindda give the whole rep hobby a less "innocent" image. if we admit to having so much thought in a purchase as we are discussing here, then where else do we need to be cautious?
who else might be offended by our hobby?

the wierd thing is, that when I look inside my feelings on this, I honestly agree with the members who are against this rep, but I am all confused, as I turned off my bad morale filter when I got hooked on this rep. thang.
I know that we have a argumentation, saying that our reps don't cause a huge cut in income for the watch manufactors, and that collecting reps will often lead to collectiung gens, however, this still cought me with my pants down tbh.

so lets say that a majority regards the bbq rep as bad medicine, then are there others reps to avoid in order to keep your "rep" straight? :)

How would we feel if we did an RWI watch and a dealer reped that?

It would be hypocritical if we had a problem with that. This forum is about reps, and to suggest that certain watches should not be repped seems odd at best.

I am either going to be fine with reps or get out of the game all together. There is no middle ground.

Snrubb... I have to agree with you.... You're 100% right.

I know I've been one of the guys REALLLY against this REP. Could I own a REP BBQ360 and be proud of what it represents? On the surface.... yes.
People notice PAMs and when I get a chance to talk Panerai I'm over the top excited to give them the history.

What if I purchased a REP BBQ360 and someone asked about it, this is how the conversation would start:
"Thanks for noticing. This is a REP of the BBQ360 celebrating the 10th Anniversay of Paneristi.com and the life of Bob Quapaw. I'd love to own a GEN but they only made 300 Examples of this watch."

So there you have it.. Because I enjoy the hobby of collecting REPs, on the surface I could own a REP BBQ360. In my heart.... I haven't come to the same conclusion.

After re-reading this before I hit "Submit Reply" ... I guess all conversations concerning our REPs should start as follows: "This is a REP of XYZ......"

The intent behind the original watch is why I have a problem with it being repped. Right or wrong, that's how I feel and I'll never buy the rep (nor would I buy the gen from someone trying to make a huge profit off it).

I agree with Col - I'm not happy to see DSN selling it here, I think this will do nothing but inflame the animosity between gen owners ('Risti.com folks, specifically) and rep owners.

Repfan.....your 100% right!

Short of those 2 on ebay, this watch is unattainable even if you had the money. This is a homage watch in the true sense of the word.

I think the case back looks great BTW. No sample was used I'm sure!

..........I didn't understand the controversy over this watch. To me it was just another rep--but a gorgeous one. Thus I may have been too irreverent and flippant for some of you. If that is the case, let me apologize to you for that! I find the arguments back and forth on this one really interesting because of the moral issues which are complicated by the fact that our hobby is arguably 'immoral' (by being illegal) in the first place. Maybe it is all about honor among thieves ;) Anyway, I just look at the watch in its own right and love it. If there's one genuine PAM I'd consider, it would be this one. A rep. will be my next-best-thing.
