Hi shoes
Thanks for your cooperation in this thread with the info from your gen

Maybe the inner corners of the gen are not rouneded but chamfered, like happens in some old PAM models
As I'm showing in below pic at the right side

pam%2520087-%2520inner%2520chamfered%2520CG%2520copiar_zpsqx9jf4ly.jpg

Please confirm it

I would like also to get the opinion from @Grimlocktime gen

ALE

this is correct Ale. However the chamfered corners sometimes look more rounded than angled, I assume due to some variation in how they are finished.

H factory recreates this detail to near perfection on their 056 and 061 watches. They definitely have the capability.

I think that QC pictures posted in this thread don't show the chamfer in the inner corners. So, it would be a difference between the rep 087 and the gen.

Shoes, thank you for sharing your pictures. Nice combo, by the way.

Thanks shoes and Grim for the imputs and pics

Yes It seems that OFFICINE PANERAI purpose is to get chamfered inner corners but due to the complicated position (inside) and the little size they don't get perferctly the angled shape

Thanks again

Yes it looks that

But anyway the angled chamfered (as above commented and seen) is difficult to be got even for the gen factory.

Seeing these photos of the gen next to the rep QCs is helping me get an idea of what to modify when I get the 087:
1) relume the hands and pearl: a C3/T15-4 combo strikes me as better than the yellowed lume HF is using.
2) rebrush the bezel/case with finer grain
3) refinish the pips flatter and polish them very finely
Chamfering the crown guard cut out seems impossible without affecting the dimensioning in a negative way.

The strap combo is great and a pure chance purchase that came unexpectedly with the original watch from my German friend. I was very lucky to have found this Grail.

Is it possible to source another rep crown guard with the chamber corner like gen from other panerai rep? The cp problem is a easy fix if you have basic watchmaking skill but the square inner corner is not able to fix it except a replacement.

@ALE7575 Here my well used DSN hands from a 024A. The shape and the dimension are close to the gen hands and imho a good way to correct the "too-yellowish-hands" of the Pam 087 and 243J.
The color is lighter than my pics in RL under daylight and very close to some gens with an old tritium patina.

I think its not important to change the hands as somebody mention correctly, Patina oxidize differently. There is no way standard verdict to judge the patina as a way to call out a rep. I think the CG inner shape is more critical correction to be concern about.

The 024 minute hand is 1mm longer than the 064/087 minute hand on the gen. I would assume that is the case with the reps also.

great to see you here sarge! Your sub builds are legendary!

To add to your point regarding length, the DSN hand shape is totally wrong the geometry of the lumed area is off. Also, the cannon pinion hole should be a perfect circle, but his hands have a strange "extra thick" section in the skeleton area of the hand.

Bozz I do agree that the hand color could improve, but a relume of the hands is a much better option than using the DSN.

Mine just landed. I will say it is very gen-like in its build quality. As has been discussed some of the details are off but most of them can be fixed. Here are some quick photos;
