Not really, the application of Archimedes principle will tell you if it's solid or not. All that needs is an accurate measuring beaker and a table of gold volume by weight. Remember it's this exact situation that the great man came up with displacement theory to deal with.

You would still need to strip the watch down but that's not hard.

Thanks for the heads up..... interesting piece of information!

You can find "aftermarket" solid gold president cases on eBay for around $1.2k. Throw in the gen dial, eta movement, etc, and you could have a franken solid gold day date for less than $2k with a leather band. The solid gold bracelet, even a replica one sells for $3k. Still cheaper than a gen.....

Private message me and I will give you a seller who does genuine 18k gold watches and jewelry and ships them safely. I purchased from them so I trust them.

What would be extremely interesting, is a tungsten carbide watch, with gold plating. Would have all of the weight of a gold watch, with less cost. A tungsten carbide blue ceramic sub would be amazing. All the white gold Rolex would be easily repped then.

The machining needed to produce such watches would be extremely costly for the factories though. So they would still cost quite a lot from the TD

Most people who buy all gold will just buy gen, so I'm guessing you won't be finding one anytime soon.
I know a guy with a 16618 that is pretty shit except for the custom full gold case and bracelet he had custom made. Watch is worth like 5k though.

I question why anyone would actually do that.

Unless you replace the base watch, you said the case and bracelet were the only good pieces.

Right, but they're made of solid gold, which holds almost all of its value, even if you melt it down.

As much as I agree, it just doesn't seem like something I would do.
But hey, to each their own. It is a good investment, yes.

Yeah it's definitely an odd choice. I'm also certain I'll find myself trying to Franken it if I end up getting it.
