What utter bullshit! I have clients who dress in Costco jeans, Haynes tees and Fila sneakers yet wear 40k watches. In fact one of them wears a Nautilus and that same guy drives a 40yo F250 most days. Why? Because he can.
Hell, there is a 22yo trainee manager at a local Burger King who wears a gold PP Calatrava that belonged to his grandad. I have met a Maccas drive thru cashier who had on his great uncle's D^D issue sub.
Also if you think you tell wealth by the clothes people wear and the cars they drive you have never been around the truly wealthy. People like that don't have to make a statement. I have one client who kept getting tossed out of the yard that was overhauling his 14 million dollar Princess MY because he looked like a local bum. Same guy recently had his early Lear Jet totally refurbished, new paint, interior, glass cockpit and new unrated engines. The plane has a special pouch just inside the door for his flipflops . . . Clothes mean jack shit, how you conduct and hold yourself is what shows.
Exceptions not the rule. I lived in that world for 30 years.
I am retired from the Music Industry and there is no other industry where people who have so much FU money dress down However you are making the exceptions. (How many burger flippers inherit $30,000 watches?) People who own personal Airplanes don't dress up to fly to the Bahamas for the weekend. and BTW they buy a lot of Gens there as they are a lot less expensive from ADs there.
One thing for sure is when you drill deeper into these people's lives who wear $30,000 watches the reveals of their wealth become very clear. They first of all have a LOT of expensive watches, They have a beater car for most treks into the wild but rock their $100K cars other times. Their homes are not 3000SF family of four houses. Their third home on the beach at Venice Beach may be....Anyo
ne who drops $30K for a watch has dropped a lot more for other things before the watch in their lives, I know wealthy CHEAP people. They will never think a watch is with even $3000, Watches are a part of lifestyle and usually the LAST thing wealthy people Spend a fortune on after their homes and cars.
Someone who is wealthy and shops at discount stores and drives old Pick up trucks is not likely to ever think its a good value to buy a $1,000 watch.
You have to drill deeper into someone's lifestyle then you can bet their watch is the real thing....or not.
If I see a 20 something with a $10,000 watch driving a Scion, its a good bet the watch is fake. 20 somethings care first about cars then places to live and toys well before thinking about a watch that may impress someone. Even with young suddenly wealthy musicians. They don;t run to the Jewelry store. They run to the high end car lots. Then create their seduction caves and THEN maybe buy some jewelry. Mostly to attract the opposite sex.
People in their 30s are too family oriented to deal with $30,000 watches unless they were wealthy before. If I see a family of four in a mini Van and the dad is wearing a Smurf two things come to mind. 1. They inherited a watch the would not be wearing at Wal Mart,,,,or its a fake. Now what is the likelihood of someone inheriting a Smurf? The numbers of wealthy people who can buy a $30,000 watch is very very very very small.
IF I was driving a 10 year old Honda Civic i would not be wearing a $5000 watch. Gen or Rep.
