I don't know if I'm the only one but...

I think Rolex watches are ugly. I mean, i've tried to like them but ..there's nothing I can do .. I still find them very very very ugly. Is it the peace sign on the arrow? Is it the fact that they all look alike?

I'm a big fan of PAM, AP, IWC, U-BOAT, WELDER, B&R, HB and UN ...but there is no single Rolex that I would wear.

Please tell me i'm on the only onelol :wyliehelp:

I like rolex. in my opinion PAM is very ugly. they are too simple, the dial design is from KIDS design. its the design of my 3 years old son.

Rolex are quality and function with quite a few different designs to appeal to many different types of people. They don't follow the latest trends, which usually end up an embarrassment a year later.

What I don't understand is Panerai. You've got two basic watch styles, the luminor and and the marina or whatever the one with the ugly crown guard is. Then you put in 50 different dials and turn the crown guard upside down or backwards and call it a new model. Most of the hand winds are iterations of a very inexpensive ETA 6497 hand wind or an ETA 7750/53 and you then sell a $300 watch for $7,000.

And you wonder why it's so easy to replicate a 99.9% Chinese copy? To me, that whole brand is bizarre. Biver or whatever the president of Panerai's name is, must be laughing all the way to the bank.

And don't get me started on those ugly Hu Blow and U-boat abominations.

+1 for panerai
-1 for hu blow

hublow creates future design. at first i hate 90% design. after time passed, i love 90% of hublot design.

im buying gen hublot in the future.

time change taste change.

True, taste changes with time, you also learn to appreciate things over time.
When I first joined here, I posted that you couldn't pay me to wear an AP.
Now I want a diver, a Safari and a RO... But I STILL don't like Hu-Blows!

From the history of so hated Hublot:
"Upon his arrival, Biver set about creating a new flagship collection that was unveiled in Basel in April 2005, with the Hublot "Big Bang" chronograph. It was an immediate success and orders increased threefold in one year. A few months later, in November 2005, the Big Bang chronograph was awarded internationally, receiving the "2005 Design Prize" in the "Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix", the "Sports Watch Prize" at the "Watch of the Year" ceremony in Japan, and the Middle Eastern Prize for the "Best Oversized Watch" at the Editor’s Choice "Watch of the Year" in Bahrain. Following the arrival of Biver in 2004, the brand's sales hit 24 million Swiss francs and by the end of 2006, sales were bordering on the 100 million Swiss franc mark."
I'm absolutely sure, that all these morons, who awarded these prizes, had no any good taste, and Biver paid them under the table by his swiss cheese.
Oh, you...
Hublot is the most innovative design EVER, with stunning construction and elegancy. Big Bang RG with Black bezel is still one of the most beautiful watches ever created. Sure, they make a lot of vomit, but the original BB is fantastic beauty.

The ref. 1655 Explorer II is pretty great. I also like the original Explorer.

I find the other designs quite bland, maybe it's because Rolex keeps using the same old basic designs decade after decade. There's no innovation in their lineup. Maybe I'll get a two-tone Daytona when I retire, it'll fit the occasion.

I love rolex designs. It's actually the "brand recognition" that is keeping me from wearing it all the time.

But if I can only wear one watch.. It would be the 1655.

This is what I HATE about Rolex

And

This is what I LOVE about Rolex

gega9equ.jpg

In short, I love the heritage of the brand and old-school charm of the Sub in particular. I hate the blinged out Rapper crap. Unfortunately, it seems like the brand is going more and more towards this market - the Supercase is a perfect example of this.

No one is buying a rolex these days because of that pic of Steve McQueen, that's why I wanted one. They are buying them to show off their wealth and flash them at every opportunity. It's embarrassing how often you see people jerk and flaunt their wrist.

.

Wearing TWO watches, let alone TWO watches on ONE wrist, makes one look like a complete f*c*i*g DOUCHEBAG!!!!

But it isn't only ROLEX.

Any brand these days goes through that, some idiotic looking t*@t with no sense of style or horology completely rapes the brand's reputation by making their watches look like cheap tarty, slutty toys.

That's fashion overall, you can buy expensive clothes that may show off your wealth but look like utter s*ite.
Or you can buy nice clothes and not know how to wear them.
Same difference.

Same thing happens with watches.

You watches

+1 on that. I totally agree. The man makes the watch, the watch doesn't make the man.

I couldn't agree more.

You can usually recognize a Rolex based on the bracelet anyway. Or just a quick glance of the watch face. That works until you realize you've been staring at a $70 Invicta.

LMFAO, thats happened to me more then once.

No accounting for taste, or even a complete lack of it. :hehehe:

Rolex were here long before you were born, and they'll be here long after you're gone, unlike who-blows, you-bloat, arc-welder, bell and dross.......:D:

They make a very high quality product, there is not doubt about it, thier designs endure for a reason and I quite like the fact they don't have 1000 diffrent styles and change on a whim. I haven't purchased a gen Rolex in a while because they went price crazy to the point where thier products are out of line with what you get.

Pricing their product out of the reasonable reach to thier main customer base seems stupid to me, but then again theres alot of stupid people who will continue to pay that price no matter the number, but to me paying 7000 for a SS sub is laughable.

I'm quite certain this will change the OP's mind about Rolex.

If you don't recognize a Rolex from 20 feet away............sorry, but you're no big shot, big shot wanna be maybe, nope far from it. That's just how it is, we can not change that. It is just the way it is. Has been like that for over 50 big shot years. Cheers

+1

I don't know one watch enthusiast that can't spot a Rolex. I know people who are clueless about watches , and even they know Rolex.
