My 42mm PO just arrived today and while everything is good, i notice that manual winding is rather stiff, it also comes with a sound I never hear before. This is my 1st rep with 2824, so im not sure if this is normal.

Anything wrong with this A2824?
Vid: (u may need to slightly up the volume to hear it)

Does it keep good time? If it does, I wouldn't worry about it... Mine does the same thing, but since it runs at +2sec per day after I had it serviced, it doesn't bother me at all..

No intend to service it at the moment, Im concern if this indicates a bad health of the movement.

Why do people feel the need to manual wind clone autos? Leave it alone!

Btw ST, that was a general statement directed towards everyone.

Haha i understand, im not really gonna wind manually much, just concern that its an indication of a problem movement that will die anytime.
It doesnt sound like any 21J and manual I own.

well because I want to, and sometimes when I set the time as I screw back the crown in it kinda manual winds it for about 1/64 of a turn. The A2824 aren't buttery smooth when winding either as opposed to the swiss.

It doesn't sound bad, really. Unless I'm missing something. Like you said your gonna have it serviced, so once its oiled up and all sealed it will probably be just fine. Dont worry until it braeks and when it does then its a good excuse to get new one.

As you know these are reps, just wear it for what it is.

er nope, im not getting it serviced lol. Anyway I will just leave it to be till something (touch wood) happens. That will be the time to get one of the ST2130

You guys that say don't ever wind a watch need to see the difference on a Timegrapher between an almost unwound and a fully wound movement. The amplitude can change from 140 to 270 and the beat will become much more regular.

From dead unwound, I'll always wind a watch about 30 times to get it going properly. Just go slow and easy, particularly on an Asian chrono movement.

My mistake, I thought you were saying you were getting it serviced. I don't blame you for not, I wouldn't either. I've never had a service on a rep, no need to, once it dies in the trash it goes as far as I'm concerned. I spend no money on reps past the cost to obtain.

Nice date window, but I do believe the Omega is slightly tilted, LOL.

What is the reserve time on it? It sounds a lot like the mainspring slipping. If this is the case, the reserve time will not be up to normal. Since it is an auto, it doesn't mean a broken mainspring, just that the bridle is not exerting enough pressure against the barrel.

After playing ard with it last night and putting it down before I sleep, its still running this morning at the correct time after 9hrs.
I will try to do a reserve time test and report back.

Thanks Dave

I'm not quite understanding what you're saying. Are you saying a watch will only fully wind with the manual wind function as opposed to moving the rotor back and forth for a couple minutes, or just saying to make sure it's fully wound?

I'm saying that if you pick up a fully dead watch and shake it a few times, it's not going to have enough reserve power built up in the main spring to run properly. That's why most gen watches, if you read the instructions, say to wind them before first use. Unless you're pretty active during the day, who'll probably never get enough reserve to get the amplitude to where is should be and you've got a good chance of it stopping during the day if you're a couch potato.

Other than Seiko, that is. Since most of them wont hand wind. That's why I never wear my Seiko anymore. If you're into swapping watches regularly, it just doesn't work without leaving it on a watch winder.

If you wear the same watch daily, it's not a problem.

anyone with a a2824 can give me a heads up on weather their 2824 is harder to manual wind than other movement?

Googled the problem and it seems quite a number of people with asian/swiss 2824 has a similar problem.

I find that even an ETA 2824 is much harder to wind than a 21j or even an ETA 2892-2.

Reporting back.
Wind up (not sure if its full) the watch manually and left it alone. Lasted 43.5hrs. Not too bad I guess.
