I swam with my rep out of the box (official thread)

Oh Yeah.. Gotta be able to swim in your divers watch. Here are my rep water test.

WBK GMTIIc : failed out of the box. Showered in it and the crystal fogged up. Had to blow dry it out. Watch still works fine and it keeps excellent time.

BK SubC: showered, swim and ocean out of the box and passed with flying colors.

BK TW Sub, shower, pool, ocean out of the box. No problems at all.

I'm going to send my GMTIIc to a Modder to have it re-lumed, greased and crystal pressed before I try it in water again.

I have several high end gens that are flawless in hot tub, pool and ocean so my reps have to live up to the sane standards even if I have to pay a little extra for them out of the box. I guess I am funny like that. Why buy a replica divers watch and you have to take it off before getting pushed in the pool by your 14 year old? Lol..

Anything is good. I have another thread on here and some guys post chronos that have been tested. They got Hublot, AP ROO, Breitlings etc... Linky

Good thread!
You guys are just testing "divers" right? No chronos.

Not a true WIZ I see... JK... Some people just love their watch that much and some love to take em out diving, swimming, anywhere... it's just good to know.

Plus put it this way... which rep would sell... The one you can swim in or the one you can't? Guarantee you if you put the same rep in an add together... the one you can swim with will sell faster.

I must be missing something but everytime this comes up I wonder why anyone would even want to take a shower while wearing a watch.

Even swimming.. unless you're a diver (do that many people actually dive?) or a lifeguard who needs to know when his shift is over.

To each his or her own, as they say!:bubbles:

I gotta another challenge: lets put our reps in a microwave and see if they with withstand that ! If not, lets create a huge collective lawsuit to get our $99 dollars back from China....

That will fry your microwavce as well.

But honestly I know of people that - when in Thailand - once cooked watches in the tea kettle that you often find in the hotel room.

They did not survive... LOL

The watches.

I guess the big question is how did the 'watch tea' taste? A tad metallic :p

If it has Not been pressure tested I would Never go near the water with a Rep or a Gen for that matter.IMHO

More or Less this is my train of thought... although a little off still has some bearings. If someone says "hey buddy I'll give you a new watch if you swim with that one you got on breaks." Would you do it?

My thought is...I want my reps to function as their Gen counterparts, simple as that.

Well it's kinda weird to be wearing a diving watch and having to take it off before you go for a swim no ???

No, because a rep of a diving watch is... wait for it... A REP of a diving watch.
It's not the real thing, built to nearly as strict tolerances, greased, or tested like the real thing...
It's king of like buying a replica car. Yeah they look the same, but you don't want to enter it in any street races.

Agreed. I've lived in Florida most of my life and I wouldn't think of taking of my watch fishing, diving, or particularly at the beach. At the beach it'd probably be gone if you left it on your towel and went in the water.

If you're going to the pool, on vacation at the beach, or participating in water sports, the most annoying thing to have to do is take your watch off. That's why you want to do this. I have never taken a plunge with any of the SA's I have had, but I have with my Bentley, and I would surely do so with my DSSD. It looks really tacky when you see a guy with a watch that you presume to be expensive, take it off before going in the water.

I swam, bathed, snorkeled, showered...down to ten or 15 feet or so (deep shower) for a decade with a $40 Rolexican (rep bought in Tijuana) all through the 1990s. Salt water. Fresh water. Beer spills. You name it.

Never had a problem. I literally wore that watch every day until I got my first gen in 1999.

Dealer: Timeshop
Model: Submariner $108 ceramic bezel with Asian2836
Tested via pressure test and surprisingly it passed... I did this with my watchsmith so maybe he greased it up... but none the less passed 4 ATMs = about 132 FT

Tested with my watchsmith.. because I don't trust Timeshops QC.

I figure I should give this a go: as a preface, I work as a rescue swimmer for the state parks and do a lot a diving (skin and tanked).

PO pumpkin from WBK
Hont's Explorer I: I greased the seals.
Fakey Sub
Panerai 111H from WatchEden: greased the seals.

Thing they have survived: JetSki'ing across the ocean at about 50mph
Being "hot dropped*" off a boat
Multiple dives to ~30m
Surfing 10-15' waves and being thrown under 15' waves :grin
LOTS of open water swimming

*hot drops are a rapid deployment of a swimmer via hucking our asses off the back of a jetboat at about 30 miles an hour.

timeshops noob promotion sea-dweller - 21j, 3-4 hours pool time playing with the kids, no leaks.

As for me, I see no reason why rep makers cannot make these have at least 100ft water resistance. Any cheap watch has at least that much.
