me too. The gen is very scratch resistant I heard someone say in a you tube video.the tw isn't grade 5 titanium I imagine that's why.
This clean version is grade 5 apparently
I think there's alot of misinfo. Grade of Titanium refers to basically different Ti alloys with different composition. It's still all Ti.
All Titanium alloys, they have slightly lower hardness compared to SS, so not scratch resistant as steel no matter what.
Contrary to popular belief - Gr 2 Titanium is more pure in Ti than Gr 5. This makes it better in some areas than Gr 5 like corrosion resistance but it's softer, hence less scratch resistance than Grade 5. This is what I think people get confused by. They shoulf say Grade 5 is more scratch resistant IN RELATION TO GRADE 2.
There's a way that many manufacturers get by this - applying a coating to the metal. You may have heard of stuff like Duratec or SINN's tegitmented steel. Metals with these coating are more scratch resistant but is not an inherent to metal itself. And the thing about these coatings is that it is very hard to refinish the watch if it does scratch.
I'm not sure if Rolex uses a coating. I don't think so otherwise Rolex would be jerking it ofg as a propietary hardness coating in all marketing materials.
