when I look at the movement thru the caseback and when the 26240 is being hand wound can someone please point out in a picture what I should see moving ( or not ) if the crown is working ( or not ) the winding mechanism correctly. I am assuming it's the 5 arm thingy in the picture.

Reason I am asking is I am trying determine whether the winding stem is actually working or not, changes date/time etc but incredibly silent as in non existent noise when I'm winding by hand, although does seem to keep some PR when the automodule rotates.

much easier to do after a large Pimms.
yes that little wheel under the plate you pointed to in the picture which is hidden is actually turning when I turn the crown, no way I’d have seen that without pointing it out so thank you….. I think it is indeed winding then, well at least that wheel is living 🤪

it’s silent… I mean absolutely no noise upon winding at all…..is that how everyone else’s movement is? Maybe I’ve just had crap ASPF reps before but they all have at least a faint noise.

this was also a great reference to look at https://www.thenakedwatchmaker.com/decon-audemars-piguet-chrono-cd1159

The one I received (and now shipped back) was the same, I felt a little resistance when winding, but it was silent.

AP 26240st Franken

I can’t thank @legend enough for this amazing Franken he build for me. The watch was stuck in customs because after verification they thought it’s a GEN and they asked me to pay a lot on customs!!

@legend helped me a lot to clear it out and I didn’t pay a penny.

Here is the specs.
  1. Blistered NEW GEN Dial and GEN date wheel
  2. 22k gold CNC rotor
  3. Complete movement overhaul
  4. Rebrush case/bezel/bracelet
  5. Bracelet/case beveling + polishing
  6. Polish and align bezel screws
  7. Waterproof and Pressure test
I think APSF did a great job with this rep but in my opinion in real life the difference between the GEN dial and Rep is way more obvious.

Enjoy the pictures comparing it with the Rep.

Amazing beauties! Just wow. Please please please please please.... find a new screw for the one at 49 minutes. For all the work put in, that screw at 49 minutes is making faces at me and it is now my sworn enemy.

Have to agree - that screw is an eyesore! Hard to believe it was used for such a lovely franken build but we have to remember that a franken still isn't 1:1

I understand it doesn’t bother some / most. That screw is looking at me funny though. It’s up to no good.
Considering the overall precision, time snd efforts done, it’s a remarkably well-executed piece and it is hard not to be admired , a minor flaw would be a perfect imperfection to this masterpiece!

lol relax bud. You want to do it, go for it. More power to you. A fool and his money are easily parted. Clearly. It’s just an opinion. That’s the entire point of a forum. There are Gen APs with worse polishing jobs vs these 800$ reps. “Gen spec “ brushing etc etc is all BS.

You are obviously new here, and very eager. We all did the same thing , and learned the same lesson I was trying to steer you away from.
Tell me. Where does spending thousands of dollars on a franken sit in all this that still isn’t gen? A fool and his money….

Please explain what's wrong with the screw, I'm a newbie and curious about it. Thank you

The screw slit cut isnt even on the hexagonal head, its cut on an angle. IRL you wont notice, but knowing its there will haunt you, if you have any type of obsesive personality. I would go mad for example.

Here you go. Hope it doesn't bother you as much as it does me.

And I know I've made a big deal of the screws, overall I think these reps are true marvels of what has been possible to accomplish. I also think, that with how exacting most of the watch has been able to be manufactured, it really, truly, bothers me how these screws, which frame the dial and are often looked at when appreciating the watch face, have been machined so poorly. I can even overlook the V1 rotor as you aren't staring at it while wearing the watch.

@legend Any chance a run of better screws can be manufactured?
