Hi guys I’m very new to this replica build and I haven’t a clue I’m hoping you experts can help!!! I’ve built a 5513 1963 to all original factory spec and wish to do the same for this build in the future sometime e.g when I have spare cash and when the parts come up! So I have the original dial and hands to start I have or soon to have a well made aftermarket case ( PCG 61) but I can’t afford the original 1565 movement as yet BUT at the same time can’t wait to put this watch together and enjoy it!!! So that’s why I’m going down this route!!! There’s nothing wrong with a replica build I do love them and they put a smile on my face. Anyway I’m looking for a replacement movement that will fit the original dial and hands ? Thanks for reading and I appreciate any feedback.

Welcome aboard! There’s lots to learn here.
A 1565 gmt movt or a 1575 gmt movt is terribly scarce. And expensive to boot- I’d figure may be in Excess of 5K usd.
I’ve quit using gen Rolex movts in my builds 13-15 years ago.
your best bet is to go with the 2836 gmt movt with a DOW.
Or save your money and buy gen!

I have a 1675 build with a Hangzou 6460 GMT movement. Very reliable and about 120 Euro.

I understand Rolex movements are terribly expensive even parts ! For a tiny screw is £50!! But I like to invest in the watch’s I build because there’s no fun keeping money sitting in the bank when you can wear a nice piece and enjoy it and when you want to sell it it’s worth something. Does this 2836 movement require cutting of the dial feet?

Mate it’s a gen movement or nothing with that dial. If you cut the feet you’ll destroy it’s value.
Yeah you could be right!. Do you know if a 1560 date or 1570 date be suitable for the GMT hand ? Because my research seams that 1560 and 1570 are the same as 1565 and 1575?

You’ll need a 1565 GMT for that dial. The automatic bridge will be engraved 1560. A 1575 GMT will also work fine but a chapter ring 1675 will have originally come with a 1565.

Sorry I missed your question. A 1560/1570 date will lack the GMT parts/wheel. You need a 1565/1575, be wary of poorly converted movements. The GMT variants aren’t marked as 1565/1575 but as 1560/1570, so you’ll need to check it’s actually a GMT movement from the top side of the movement. This is what you’re looking for, see the additional gear on the date change wheel:

What a GORGEOUS dial! I wish Rolex never would've upgraded it with white gold outlines. The beauty of this reference (along with the early versions of the 16750) is the simplicity of the dial making it an ideal tool watch for pilots and world travelers. The upgrade made the watch more like jewelry. Still a beautiful watch regardless but there's nothing like a radial dial GMT Master.

Good luck with your build.

Hi MMaggie thanks for your response yeah I love the dial to thanks, I prefer vintage Rolex over modern it’s just the 4 digit references do it for me. I’m thinking to buy a date 1560 or 1570 and just change the addition wheel on the date function? Do you reckon that’s all that will need changing or is there more to it than that? @Bill @mmaggie

I'm not a modder or have any experience as a watch smith. I'm just a lover of all GMT Master. So I'm not able to answer your question.

It’s a little bit more complicated than just changing the date function. Here’s a list needed to convert. Most of these parts are very hard to find now and the cost of them would be move expensive than just buying a correct GMT movement.

#8038 - center second pinion 5.70mm
#8037 - Cannon Pinion 3.39mm
#8039 - hour wheel 2.44mm
#8040 - 24hr wheel 1.41mm
#8035 - Calendar Wheel nut
#8036 - Date Jumper
#8006 - Cam Yoke
#8008 - Cam yoke spring
#8011 - stud for cam
#8030 - Center wheel with Cannon Pinion
#8034 - Calendar Wheel
#7965 - calendar spacer

Hi bill this might have to be an opinion for me, the movement in my 5513 is a 1530 I’m thinking to convert this to 1565. As far as I’m aware 1520,1530,1560,1570 have all the same main plate? Am I correct? Thanks again ah also the screws what part numbers are these as a lot of these parts are sold without screws e.g date calendar spacer.

This was my first project which tock over a year to build, amazingly I found all the correct parts especially the dial I never thought I’d finish this project and went through a lot of ups and downs ( more downs lol) but a big smile at the end. Bracelet is also big crown 63 ( couldn’t afford a decent 7206 bracelet, 63 pcg case with underline dial. Looking at this picture even if I don’t convert my 1530 I may convert another if the price works out.
