I would save your money and pick the Asian clone.

Have you selected a dealer? :)

ETA is a Swiss company which produces movements in both Switzerland and China. Clone movements are made (sometimes by the same factories) to closely mimic the ETA movements. Often they are very difficult to tell one from the other.
The clone 2824 and 2836, as well as the 6497 are all excellent and arguably as good as the gen versions. I'd only consider a gen ETA with a display back watch, but even then it would have to be a pretty close price.
Normally I'd chose the clone.

Also - you don't know what "ETA" movement you will get for your money. Often they are very old and "reconditioned" movements, or they are factory seconds (flawed in some way and didn't meet ETA standards) etc.

I've been meaning to ask someone this....

Is there a noise difference between asian and swiss when the rotor spins?

My BK YM is super quiet when I shake it around as opposed to my 21j sub from TS. Then again, they're two different types of mov't - I'm more curious about the asian vs swiss

When comparing 2 like movments (ETA 2836 vs. A2836, for example), some say yes, others say no. Hearing rotor noise is fairly subjective. Certainly some of the cheaper 21J movments can be louder.
But overall I'd say the ETA movements are better lubricated than the clones, and cleaner as well, so I would bet the ETA movements would also be quieter.

Would say it depends on the size of the case, my GMT II with asian clone is pretty damn silent unless you shakes it dangerously hard close to the ear.
My gen Breitlings sounds A LOT more, my modded HBB Icebang with ETA7750 installed also makes more noise then the GMT.

So from my pow, bigger case = more noise, smaller/thinner case = less noise.

Had a 21j IWC portugese with that sounded like crap, almost like the rotor were scratching the display crystal (it didn´t but the resonanse through were horrible..)

Hi!

I had a GMT2 with the Asian clone and I had absolutely no problems with going for the clone movement. It was near silent and kept great time. I foolishly sold it :( But my next purchase is this fine watch.

I am sure you will love it! I loved mine - so much I am going to get one again!

I am new at this forum. RM seems to have many fans here prob will go with them

this will also apply with the recomended dealers here?

If going ETA gen will work the same as the cloned asian Rolex or ETA may be I will go for the clone but not sure at the time.

and what about the asian 3186 I am no expert in movements or gen rolex movements, but so far it seams that some gen brands modify the ETA movements to meet some specific things. Some other few make they're own movements.

In these case that asian clone is suposed the cone for a rolex movement?

If so what can we expect from it?
