Does the MBW look different to you?

I'm seriously thinking about purchasing a MBW LV. I been looking at a lot of pictures and it appears that the MBW case has the same conical rehaut as the lesser priced models. I always thought that MBW's had very deep cylindrical rehauts. Do the new cases being made today look that way to you? I have a VIPmariner and that is the one thing that bugs the shit our me, the cylindrical rehaut. I'd love to know your opinion. How does the TW compare in regards to the rehaut?

No. The new (TTK) MBW has the same rehaut as old MBW. I have both watches and they don't have overly conical rehauts. You probably seen too many pics (mine included) that are taken too close to the watch and therefore see the rehaut warped. Look at TTK's pics which are most likely taken with a tele-lens:

I have owned all of these: noobmariner (your paul's so called perfect is an ETA noobmariner), vipmariner 1st gen, josh's $188, River's TW Best, old case MBW, new case MBW (from TTK).

The noobmariner (yours) has correct rehaut slope, along with TW Best and MBW (old and new). VIPmariner 2nd gen (judge from pics) and josh's $188 have conical 'wok-like' rehaut. VIPmariner 1st gen's rehaut is between the noob/MBW/TW Best and josh's $188.

Eventually a Gen Insert and Pearl, probably gonna want to add a Gen dial, hands, and crystal Down the road aswell. After that I would get a new bracelet, probably genuine with genuine endlinks. After that check the bay and see about a genuine movement. That should be good, unless a genuine 16610 case comes up on the bay, than go ahead and replace that too. Then you'll have the perfect sub.

That's what it looked like to me. Does anyone know why they changed? Now I'm second guessing getting the newer version.

The old case MBW is the best because the bezel teeth are dead accurate and the CG profile is better (the bottoms of the CGs don't have sharp cuts). But the old case MBW can only be obtained in the 2nd hand market.

I really don't feel the new TTK MBW has more conical rehaut than the old one. The dial sizes are exactly the same. The rehaut thickness at the top of the rehaut ring look the same. In theory, the rehaut couldn't have gone more conical and it doesn't look more to me.

Here's a pic taken very closeup. So it may appear conical but still not bad.

I'll take on of the old case for you later.

I have a whole bunch of sub reps, including Paul's So Called Perfect (eta noob), Josh $188, Josh Beginmariner, TTK MBW LV just to name a few. The Paul's So Called does appear to have a cylindrical rehaut BUT it is a very noticably Shallower rehaut as well. The Josh $188 has a super conical rehaut but it does look deep. The TTK MBW has both things going for it DEEP rehaut that is very cylindrical.

Like BK said it is very hard to compare/tell the cylindrical rehaut in pics but I have held these watches side by side and you can definetly tell the MBW rehaut is MUCH better than the others. Here is a pic of mine, from left to right 1) Paul So Called Perf., 2) Josh $188, 3) TTK MBW LV

You can pretty easily see that the 1 has a shallower rehaut, not so easy to see is that josh $188 is much more conical.

treeman thanks for that picture....I think I will mod my so called perfect after all..... the Rehaut to me isnt that noticable untill you have them side by side. I figure I'll just do a crown + tube and pearl and call it quits.... should make for a nice daily beater sub.

I really do like the so called perfect alot (I have had it for quite some time and it has been through a lot with me) and you are correct unless you have them side by side it is hard to tell unless you are actually looking for that. Before I found out about this wacky thing we call rehaut I compared my so called perfect many times side by side to gens and I NEVER noticed the rehaut depth difference, it wasn't until I found this site a few months ago that I found out about it (sometimes I wish I never knew what the heck it was) ;) . You should be very happy modding the so called perfect with crown/tube, & pearl (the one thing I always hated was the larger crown), it is a great watch, I interchange it regularly with my mbw all the time. Good luck, and I know you will post some pics of it when you are done right? ;)

yes, I will post pics when all said and done =)

now I need to source a decent used crown on the bay, there are so many fakes now on there claiming to be 100% gen... -_-

The rehaut thing corresponds with another first look issue: The crown position.

If the rehaut is deep as it should be the crown is so far down that you can tell the fake by the crown looking out of your shirt not showing the rest of the watch.
If the crown position is correct you have to live with the flat rehaut.

As long as the ETA movement is used it´s impossible to have a perfect sub.
Sad but true.

yup, until they rep the gen movement (or at least one with correct dimensions) this will be the case. Until then you have to choose the lesser of two evils...correct rehaut/lower crown position OR shallow rehaut/correct crown position.

thanks treeman for the photos, they help tremendously. bodo, I'll take a lower crown vs. shallow rehaut any day of the week. very helpful, thanks for sharing.

Same here, for me personally the rehaut depth & thickness is much more important than crown position. I guess for others that does not bother them as much.
