I never usually get asked if any of my reps are gens, except when I wear my modded sub or SS datejust. Anyway I was at a little BBQ last night and wore my sub. Someone there remarked "hey nice watch, is it real?" Usually I would say its a rep but I decided to say "Look and see for yourself" and handed it to him. Well this spawned a huge debate with a group of guys there. He said it was fake because its waaay to light and a gen would weigh 2x as much. The someone else said "No it has to be real because the second hand sweeps and the fakes tick, thats how you tell!" To which i chuckled slightly. Then another said " well the only way to tell if its real or not is to open it and look at the gears, the real ones are diamond coated, that's why they never wear out and why Rolex makes the best!" Another said that if teh serial numbers were engraved etween the lugs, that was proof of its authenticity. Anyway, after letting them have an argument for a while I told everyone it was a rep and got mixed response. This is one thing that bugs me about our rolex reps!

Well, it's obvoius none of them has ever been in contact with a real Sub. The band and weight on that is very insubstantial. As far as other "tells", most people guess as to whether the watch is a gen......most people really don't know.
It is best to wear your watches and enjoy them. Does it really matter what others think?

Got asked only once, buy someone who had no idea what kind of money I make. Everyone else asume they are gens, except for my close friends, who have heard about RWI way before I even order my first rep 
Next time you're in that situation just say..

I have heard lots of false ways to identify fakes and lots of false ideas about gens also. The general public is extremely unknowledgable about Rolex watches.
A common claim is that a gen second hand has absolutely no jerks. People who make this claim identify gens as fakes because they are using a false yardstick.

If you wear a Rolex -rep or gen- nearly everyone who notices will presume it's a fake. Therefore, wear a rep!
I have a feeling, though, that if you'd actually opened the back, they'd take one look at the coronet on the rotor and be totally convinced. "Gold-plated movement! It's got to be real!"

Gen Rolexes have laser lume, thats the tell.
Bracelets are hand carved in elven mythril and new datewheels are hollow and filled with helium, floating that is. In fact you find a piece of string to tie your watch in case you want to use it like a balloon.

a guy in a pub last week certified that my GEn gmt coke was a fake, and a bad fake... so... I just laugh, not even want to prove to him or anything at all, anyway I wear it for me not

Any idea how many morons pointed out "blatant flaws" on my gen 6241? Or my gen sub?
I just confuse em even more, they go like "the glass looks weird, it's chinese crap", I reply "no, this is a franken and the crystal is the only gen part on it". So they will have to find another flaw and so on in a funny carnival of pure idiocy.

Had the same issues with my breitling Colt.
It's a Quartz and some geezer told me Breitling didn't do quartz.
What can you do? Let him believe he's the maaaaaan...
