Nobody has EVER asked whether my watch is gen or rep. It's the total package. If you are around the country club set, it's a momentary glance and that is all, never more. If you happen by a jewelry store the clerk gives a momentary glance and never more. If you look like you shouldn't be wearing a gen then maybe that is the true "tell".

I wear reps because I beat the hell out of all of my watches and to screw up a seven to twenty thousand dollar watch is just plain wrong. I buy from BK the reps I wear most and I go about my day with confidence.

I'm Dutch by heritage, we're a frugal bunch.

I see these topics all the time and am absolutely dumbfounded. I've never had anyone ask and I RARELY see reps in the wild. How do you guys laugh after someone asks you such a derogatory or personal questions? To me that's like an aquaintence, friend, or stranger asking if my wife's tits are fake.

I would have one response, "**** you".

Gen Rolexes have laser lume, thats the tell.
Bracelets are hand carved in elven mythril and new datewheels are hollow and filled with helium, floating that is. In fact you find a piece of string to tie your watch in case you want to use it like a balloon.

Ohhhhh... well, I take back everything I ever said about Rolex, in that case.

I'm with you. I wear Rolex reps all the time and only once I've ever had a comment on it. Getting off an airplane with my brother in law who had a rep Sub and I had a SD,we had somebody say "nice watches". Said thanks back to him...

Well, it's obvoius none of them has ever been in contact with a real Sub. The band and weight on that is very insubstantial. As far as other "tells", most people guess as to whether the watch is a gen......most people really don't know.

It is best to wear your watches and enjoy them. Does it really matter what others think?

I've always found this interesting (and please don't view this as a derogatory comment. It isn't). If it didn't matter what other people think then why buy many of the reps in the first place. Seiko/hugo/timex all make nice looking watches but they lack the 'brand name' tag. I challenge almost any member on here to admit they dont purchase a rep to in someway impress a member of the public. And I'm not talking about friends, most of us tell our mates the truth 90% of the time. But come on, admit it, we all want that person on the train/bus/plane to think its a gen???

Or maybe its just me....

I don't think it is to brag about the reason why most people buy replicas, what good could that bring to your life really?
I think it is design we all are after.

Look here:

st35620.jpg

Isn't it a damn cool automatic diver? 300 bucks or so, affordable, effective and water resistant 300mt, I'll prolly end up buying one.
It is clearly inspired by Rolex Sub and Omega sm300 divers, both watches I love.
You can buy it and love it just as much, only be aware of the fact that it's a legit fantasy replica watch, a cool franken project not against the law.
Some cheap gens have more personality but more or less, wherever you go you find replicas, some are illegal chinese ones, some are legal, but how many of them look like Rolexes or Omegas or other famous brands? 80%? 90%?
Who cares.
We all like Seiko divers, for example. They are cool gens and price is ok for almost any pocket. AND we like Rolex, Breit, AD etc...

If you love cars you want a Ferrari Daytona or a James Bond Aston Martin because they are top cars, they belong to history. Not to impress your boring neighbours, a purple bowler hat is good enough for that.
A small car is cool as well if you are happy to drive home a girl who likes you in it.
It's nice to have the greatest watches in history without having to rob the National Reserve every other week, let's put it that way.
I love my watches (gens or reps, more or less the same, sometimes you love a franken project even more) and I wear em with maximum satisfaction when I am home alone and occasionally catch a glimpse of my wrist on a mirror. I think "damn, ain't it a fukn cool watch?".
Just like you love your car. Not when people you don't give a damn about see it, but when you are driving alone, unseen in the night going somewhere or simply back home to your family.

Bottom line: 90% of the members here know 10X more about watches (rep and gen) them most Gen owners.......futhermore, non-gen owners that you encounter know 10% of what gen owners know.....feel safe wearing the high-end reps bought from trusted dealers here......if you are called out, 99% of the time, it will be a rep forum member who is also wearing a rep......life is good....ENJOY

I wear an MBK sub with a Noob dial and hands, gen insert, wm9 date ring and Clark crystal. I don't even know if anyone has ever noticed it adn that's fine with me. I don't try to call attention to it. I like it and could really care less what anyone else thinks.

But...

Funny thing happened at an automobile dealership last week. I was looking around and a salesman came my way. I spotted his fake across the lot. It was a blue dial TT. I just said, "nice watch" and he immediately responded with, "yeah and it's a real one..." I just looked at him...you know, speechless...and went about my business. It was the first time that I have ever had any kind of Rolex wearer to respond like that.

It was the ugliest, yellow, shiny gold I ever saw. Had it been an Invicta it would have looked right, but not a Rolex. It's hard to fake solid 18K gold.

@ TL, life is indeed good. Too short too.

I heard Rolex makes their watches with the best components from the heavens. In fact, I hear they not only know god, they employ him. When they built that quartz model, god was on vacation. They can do no wrong. ;)

I hate when some low life sorry ass looser passes comments like “Seiko's are famous for making cheap watches...” after looking at my Spring Drive (SPS001), it tells me how phucking stupid and naive some of them really are...

Oh my god!
I don't think I could have resisted saying something there.
Fools like that deserve a call out, preferably in front of their peers.

You can't win with the Subs. Your best franken, is still immediately a rep in the hands of anyone thats not familiar.

"Its way too light and the bracelet is really flimsy, its fake."

They always get it right, and always for the wrong reason.

we have had many of these threads through out the years. nobody has ever asked my if my watches are fake. three or four times a year i will get "nice watch". i wear a "z series" gmt2c to work during the day. during the evening i wear a "m series", white dial ss daytona, my wife wears a "z series" platinum yacht master. i bought all of them new and as far as looks, clothing and shoes go? well.... if anybody is judging by that they are seriously mistaken. most of the time i am unshaven and every day i wear harley teeshirts, faded 501 levies and dirty, white new balance tennis shoes. don't judge that book by it's cover. i spend all of time working on car's, harley's and airplane's so i am usually not what you would consider clean and fresh but because of that i can afford the things i want. my rolex ad is always very happy to see me, my 3 day unshaven stubble and my dirty tennis shoes. lmao

My friend, Seiko does make some less expensive watches but the not cheap quality. I still have 20+ years old mechanical Seikos running strong like day one and never needed service.

Hm...At 19 I figured I'd be called out on a regular basis. Given, I dress rather professionally on a daily basis for my job, still...minors aren't the "target market" of the $10k watch. I've never gotten anything but compliments and jealous friends who don't know. I've twice had to convince someone it was fake, telling them I was damn sure it was fake because I put the stupid thing together.

I think part of the fun of our hobby is having people admire our watches and then lean in, rather casual cool, and tell them it's a fake, watch their eyebrows raise, and then that small chuckle you reply in confirmation.
