100% agreed. To be honest, the rep looks amazing, looking at the QC photos I thought it was perfect, I had to get up and grab my gen (blue dial) to check.
I had to look twice as well, never noticed that at all!

Hopefully a V2 comes out to fix this. Now I can't stop noticing that mistake, haha!

Also the crown is larger on the rep which causes some of this issue. It’s shaped more like the previous smp’s rather than the slimmer more rounded new version crown.

I checked the most recent smp V2's and I think they might have the same error. The current crown error is such a blind spot that it's hard to notice because it's so easy to focus on just the dial, bezel, markers and movement!

VSF smp 300 Blue (V2) vs VSF smp 300 gold

Crown guard height looks about the same, if not the same, on second notice. The crown also looks to be the same size, although the "zoom" might have an effect on some matter of the size

Thoughts?

I did some more research, what doesn't make sense is the fact that the crown guards seemed to be accurate before at some point.

So what's the verdict? Wait until the crown guards are fixed?
Main thoughts: So after more careful review, in my opinion, it seems that the VSF smp 300 has the crown guard height the same in both the latest V2 of the black and blue and also in the new gold.

The angle play also matters a lot so I made sure to check videos of both watches in motion and in both cases the crown guard height looks to be the same.

Conclusion: It's barely noticeable and pretty much unnoticeable unless you had it being scrutinized right next to a gen by a discerning eye.

Final Verdict: I would still order this beautiful work of art considering this is not an issue VSF has had correct in previous versions**. Everyone else seems to truly enjoy VSF smp 300 series and I would not let such a minor detail really spoil the watch*

*Even though for myself personally it will take a few days to disregard it in person because I am fanatically detail oriented. But not everyone is the same, and that's what makes this hobby beautiful

**It also may be a batch issue, but I am very confident that this is a general VSF smp 300 characteristic. I'm willing to be a guinea pig for the community to see if the batch idea is true though

Interesting. Thank you for your input.

Also, I am not sure if you looked into the main SMP thread, but quite a few people have come forward talking about yellow indices in certian lighting. I especially look forward to you talking about if you have that issue in these new RG models.

Oh yes, I have been following that very closely. It's not an issue I've ever noticed personally with VSF smp's. It also might be a batch issue as others have stated. And if I can recall, the gen seems to be not always crisp and white, as per my last visit to a TD.

I'll definitely be on the lookout though and will ask Li from JTime to also let me know if he sees this issue in some of his orders.

VSF vs Gen comparison

Looks really close. Bother! I need another expert on this.

I should compile all this in my full review when I get the watch in person.

If you want a direct comparison to Gen, here you go. Found this while doing research earlier.

The Gen on left has longer crown guards than the rep on the right.

(squints violently)

It looks to be off by a few hairs. Barely noticeable with me getting aggressive crow's feet from all the squinting.

Thanks for the comparison picture you found!

Yeah I'm not really sure I'd wait for a fix either... is it accurate? No but it hardly seems like a big deal. Just not superrep status.

I'm honestly more afraid of a horrid yellow lume ordeal. Did your product ship yet?

Li will be shipping it out today, or tomorrow. I green lighted the QC pictures. The 0 s/d, angle, dial and marker alignment was too good to pass up.

I'm going to post immediately if I see anything remotely close to a yellow lume.

I'll take some shots of the crown later, but here are some gen photos of the white indices, and they are pretty white all day in all lights

In some the shots you can see the crown guards, they go to about halfway up the crown
