Hello,

So during the COVID19 and with work from home program, one would have too much time on their hands with very little to do.

I had 3 choices:
1. go fat and insane, or
2. find something to tinker, or
3. take all of the viagra I got as freebies from dadog13 and go nuts.

Obviously I picked all 3.

Anyways, legend has long been an inspiration for me to get an AP (man, ALL AP just look so good on that man's wrist). It took me a while to decide which one I like, I frequently loaned a few of @zeula 's AP Frankens for a test drive and after soooooooo many watches, I fell in love with The Beast. I asked @zeula to please sell me his watch, but he just simple told me to "fuck off".
Oh well, life goes on. Then legend suggested that I start with a fully modded one then go for franken later. The advice I have strictly followed.
I have spent months reading everything about ROO 25721st, studied all of legend's posts about it. Pming members like Jurgenk, mikey and everyone elses and asking stoooopid questions.

Before I grow fat and insane, I would like to document this project before I forget. Plus, I think it will be nice for someone to read and enjoy (I hope?). Let's get onto it.

Guys, meet "Benjamin" Franken.

He was first born when I found a nice serviced LWO283 movement with an acceptable resemblance of the 25721st date font. I knew right away that my bank account would be ruined from this.

So next up was to find a nice 25721st dial, tachy and hands (you gotta have gen hands. I couldn't tell the differences before - but after seeing so many of legend's posts about. you just gotta have it)

Months went on and I finally found what is close to a NOS gen dial and tachy.

next up is to get the hands relumed to match gen dial.

then fuck me sideways. it came out too bright!

now I need advice. should I go full lightsaber bright? or do a "dead" lume?

after the dial and hands are done...which should be soon. I now have the case problem. How do I get a franken spec case and movement holder?

@zeula offered to do lathe work for me and mod the case and make a movement holder. He claimed that he's a talented engineer and he could do it with his eyes closed, also that he is a very nice guy and I should trust him completely and wholeheartedly.

and yeah... I did lol. I trust him so much that I bought 3 spare ROO cases for him to try.

After being so bored I studied what needs to be done to the case and have did the measurements and marking the area where the modding should be. Did I do it right? I don't know, maybe the experts can chime in and help me out.

So the spec for ROO 25721st from the official AP website is 14.05mm. I will try to get close to that if I can (or if @zeula can).

This is me attempting to tinker with borrowed tools from my local nice guy of a friend.

started off with the JF mid case which appears to be 1.0mm+ more than it should be.

and now the fugly JF caseback which is thicker than an asian hamburger.

next up is the inside of the mid case. It is too small to fit the LWO283 with the movement ring. That's needs a BBC of a lathe work to do the job.

Now knowing the crown needs to be filled up, sanded nice and flat like a Victoria Secret's model chest front and redrilled to the correct crown height for LWO283 movement. @zeula said he can do that also. I don't know...

But anyways, the project still goes on and the tinkering won't stop.

PS. does anyone have any idea how to pull out the tube from the case without fucking it up? I need help! hit me up guys if you have any other advice for me also.

Thank you for reading!

Take 3 viagra pills and you have a natural drill you can use on your case to make it gen spec.!

For sure I can’t help you too much with this since my knowledge is non existing. Anyway, you have my full support with unlimited supply of fake viagra which will hopefully help you complete these amazing project you’re working on!

Where I need to be.
You have the right ingredients to make the perfect broth brother and I think that The Beast is the quintessential AP to build.
Gen hands do make all the difference. Learn from flying-tommy whose frankens have all the right parts.
The AP ROO is an intricate piece with lots of details to appreciate, so take your time to do the build at your time, and don't rush headlong into it and end up with a watch which is more frankenstein than beastly.

The beauty of AP blue and grey dials can never be undermined, so you chose right. For the 25721, it will need to be aged to look period perfect, like the icing on the cake. A 25721 which looks too new is skeptical to peruse visually. All the best and I hope to see a watch which is both beautiful and reliable.

Thank you brother for your advice. Yes, I am taking my time on this one and this is the first AP that I have sourced all the parts and studied the details. I learned to truly appreciate the craftmanship of the watch I am trying to replicate. Surely, this thing can never be a gen or be presented as one, but at least I get to enjoy what is the resemblance of the Beast and the journey of building this watch and that is the fun of this hobby IMHO.

In additions to that, does anyone know how to remove the tube from the case????

An AP franken, when done right, is a thing of beauty.
I know my APs and to be honest many I see are nice watches on their own but nothing like an AP, with over-the-top (and often misrepresented) descriptions, outrageous prices and many t just look exactly like what they are: 98% replica watches with some genuine AP parts thrown in the mix to look more credible. So please take your time and be meticulous about each detail. Consult the experts if necessary bro. I am sure you want a watch which is more than a nice watch, but also one which is "believably AP" and there is nothing wrong with that.
You are definitely not one of the guys who flex their frankens on instagram (thereby implying tacitly that they are gen). I guess many franken owners get their thrills out of not getting caught out by wristbusters and his cohorts lol. Midas straps, Gunnystraps instagram pages are full of replicas and its funny to see where their brand association game is heading.

Having said that, you taking the prodigious time and money to build a proper franken shows that you CARE about the details of your watch, and take pride in getting the itsy bits right. I will be happy to help you along. Yes you were right in saying that it can never be perfect but it can look respectable definitely. The devil is in the details so if you want a convincing looking AP franken I can help. For example, a lot of the "beast" iterations use cyclops which are far too modern, or datewheels which are wrong. Each part and detail has to be meticulously planned.

I wish you all the best in your build P!

Thank you bro! I appreciate you taking your time to help me out, I really do. It is hard to find someone with eyes for details and great knowledge and expertise on the AP and even more so willing to help!

Thanks again A!

And you are most welcome, as always. You may wish to seek QueTip out also and milk him for his godlike knowledge lol. You may get the dreaded "Q circles" on any pic you send him for feedback but they help you open up your eyes and see your watch for what it really is.
Note: Even gen APs can be flawed in little ways. It is simply part of what being a watch owner is about, to learn to accept little imperfections, even in brand new gens.

This is looking very promising. As legend has stated before there's many things one has to keep in mind when building a franken to get important parts of the watch right that many others or stock reps may be lacking. If done right, one can achieve something very nice however never gen, but you know that.

If you need any assistance or advice from my side, you know how to reach me. :qtip2:

Awesome! I wish you much success in building the super Franken! The 25721 is a legend and I am very excited to see how your AP will look.

Which bracelet will you use?

JF rep Viagras are better than Noob ones IMO, they're 98% gen specs!

This is a great thread, promising for anyone willing to learn and watch a new big project coming to life.
Personaly I'm really curious to see that Beast getting built up, as Legend said it's an iconic model.

It is impossible for me to find bracelet that is a resemblence of the first 1000 piece of the D series 25721, which my dial, tachy and hands happens to match this period and it is the build I am going to try and replicate.
So I can either go for the JF panda bracelet, which can be commonly found as replaced on the 25721 listed on chrono24 right now (the gen bracelet is very sough after and people oftem taking them off and replaced them with newer ones for more bucks).

So for now that will be the case, but I also have gen xs navy rubber strap that I could use. Might be better this way.
