Upgrading phone - Galaxy S3 for a buck or S4?

I am upgrading my phone from the Samsung Galaxy S. By today's standards it is a dog, so anything I get is going to be light years better.

I can get the Galaxy S3 for $0.97 at Sam's Club or pay $148.99 for the S4. Is the S4 really worth the extra $148 or should I take the no brainer route and just get the S3? Like I said, I have the original Galaxy S so anything I get is going to be a huge improvement.

Thanks fellas!

I just upgraded from an S2 to S3 for free. Like you I could have had the S4 for UK£150. No thanks :D:.

To be honest I was happy with the S2 and the only improvement that I use is the better camera menu. I'm sure it as many fine extra features but, I don't need them.

I really depends what your requirements are. That saved cash could get you another rep'.

Good luck, Phil

Movie and a nice dinner with your wife/gf/kid/friend etc. , or a better phone that you will use for the next 1-2 years?

The latter option is a better value IMO, but its really up to you.

I have the s4, it's a great phone. If you don't need all the bells and whistles then get the s3 for free and save some cash.

Get the S3 and see if you like it you can always get the S4 later and it will probably be even cheaper then.

Why ? Do you not plan on needing a cellphone anymore in the next two years ? :hehehe:

No, but I'm sure not signing some contract that binds me to the carrier for any length of time.

Imagine the vodka you drink demanding you buy so much vodka a month at a set price and if you don't drink it all that month they take it back, and then force you to buy more the following month regardless if you drink it or not, and then if you need extra in a given month you pay even more and don't forget your contractually obligated to pay for set number of years. That's F'ing crazy.

In my case it's a company phone. But that's not comparing apples to apples. All these cell companies are the same crap. So you may as well save some bucks. Unless you hate your carrier.

I can't tell the effing difference. I've had S3, Note II, S4. I miss the Note II. My S4 has felt "less smooth" (clunky) compared to the other, some of my apps don't work on it, and websites freeze on the integrated browser which never happened on the others. I can't tell the difference in battery life on them. I've turned all the fancy new shit off. Swiping the phone in the air is a solution to a problem that never existed. It reminds me of a funny ad in GTA V that says "ifruit 9: 3% faster... 3% thinner." Ymmv and I'm quite sure mine is a minority opinion.

That said, I try to be as future proof as possible and who knows what awesome crap will come out in a year that you have to have that requires an S4, lol...

Thanks for the insights. It would be an easier decision if the price difference wasn't so disparate and the features so similar.

$148 will pay for the 6538 case set that I am eyeing up for a future build. There are a lot of other things I can do with that money, too.

It's not like the S3 is that bad of a phone. It was the latest and greatest until just a few months ago before the S4 was released. I also read an article in which a Samsung product engineer said that some of the new features of the S4 are going to be pushed downward to the S3 in a future software upgrade, so in the end it comes down to the camera and the screen size/resolution. Since these are light years ahead of my Galaxy S, I think I'm probably going to take the S3 for a buck and not look back.
