ZZF V2 Submariner - Very long term reliability?

Hi,

I've been using my ZZF V2 from Jtime which is a crazy good rep overall, imho. Everyone knows the watch so I'm not getting into the details. I actually had a Seiko and similar budget divers collection and I'm starting to sell them all and use my Sub as my sole watch from now on, putting it to some daily use - office, outdoors, vacations etc.

I really like how the used and unpolished old Sub's look like and I wonder how my 114060 will look in some several years of serious daily usage.

I know VR3130 is a pretty nice movement. Considering the maintenance is done regularly, do you think the movement and the watch itself can endure a nice long term usage (let's say 7-8 years) and age nicely? Or will these kind of clone movements are not to depend on for real long term usage and I shouldn't take my ZZF V2 granted and enjoy its several years lasting life.

Sorry if there was a similar thread :)

Thanks,
Fedon

I think if you service your watch it’ll last fine.

Would agree with this. The a2824 and a2836 and so on are generally quite reliable movements.
The usual complaint is that they are shipped dry or sometimes a little dirty.
Servicing the movement takes care of that issue and leaves you with a solid and reliable movement.

With this age of rep, its bracelet pins snapping and lume falling out the indices and even the indices themselves falling off, the crown tube failing and all those other issues you'll likely need to contend with too!

that's what I was afraid of :D if the watch is going to fall apart then no need to think of daily-using and aging it, right? just enjoy its several years lifespan, then

Don't be afraid, it's not likely to happen. You'd have to be very unlucky for the bracelet to fall apart or indices fall off. Even after several years - it's something you don't really read about on the forum for a reason. It's more likely you will replace it with a better version after a few years. Just 3 years ago the best Sub rep was a Noob V7 and it was regarded as superb. It is trash by today's standards.

What if I said I don't wanna upgrade to a newer one in future but daily use my sub until it looks the unpolished, purpose-used beatiful Sub look :D also I like aged things so buying new is not my thing really

Also I think the rep game is pretty strong now, these newest reps wont be trash in few years I hope.

Theres still plenty of room for improvement - don’t kid yourself into thinking a $400 fake is the same as a gen.

6 digit subs don’t age gracefully. You’ll have an imaculate ceramic bezel and dial with no hope for patina and a scuffed up case and bracelet. Its not an attractive combination like you would have with a pre-ceramic sub.

You can buy a genuine Rolex and it'll last 20 years without a fault or only 2, and some require service and maintenance 5 years or soon after, whereas others just hum along forever. I have a 2009 pre-ceramic Sub which has never been serviced, was my daily beater for 3 years and is still like new, and then I have a 2010 ceramic Sub that needed a full service (around 1K) 2 years ago and after the same amount of wearing. And I have a Noob v5 (2012 I think) ceramic Sub with a (gen) ETA movement and it's great, but the crown-stem slips when winding and it's done that for at least 5 years. It still runs perfectly, though, and I've worn the s#!t out of it.

All that said, at $450 USD on average for a fake Submariner that's the currently level of quality, I'd almost be willing to bet you that amount that you'll have bought another one a year or two at most.

I have a 14 year old Omega Seamaster rep (probably a POS given the quality of reps then) that I never did anything to but wear it. Runs fine, nothing has fallen off, Plenty of similar stories here and on other rep sites. And, if anything does malfunction it's easy to fix.....even if you have to replace the movement it'll be under a couple hundred bucks. Wear it and enjoy it!

My 2003 tw best sub still runs fine, but lume has fallen out the plots and indices have fallen off and the stem turns with the crown. A little service work and it’d be fine I guess.

Great to hear that after all years these reps still work fine :) another question, I got my ZZF V2 sub a month ago and been using it nicely since.

For long term durability, Should I get it serviced immediately as some say that factories dont oil the movements well?

If it's running well and keeping good time, I don't bother at first.

Some advocate to do a service straight away, some say "if it ain't broke don't fix it".

Agreed! Initially I wanted to do a full servicing for my ZZF V2s when I bought it in Jun this year because I thought it was a great rep which I would keep for a long time. Good thing my friend talked me out of it as I’m now tempted to get the VSF...

a full servicing will sense for frankens or highly modded ones but for stock reps, I won’t bother until it konks out. Even then, I will compare with the latest model/version which may be more worthwhile to buy and replace than to service the old watch

I had a sh movement upgraded and serviced by a trusted modder here, didn’t last a year. For the same price you can buy a new movement. That being said, the winding didn’t feel right from the get go and that’s what failed...

Great input from everyone, many thanks! Last week I had this issue, a part of the bezel's edge seemed a bit far from the case so I removed the bezel to install it properly. I was unaware of the balls and springs party beneath and all the parts scattered, took me an hour or two to gather them back :D man, what a difficult bezel to install, left it at my watchmaker to install it somehow...

Reps have come a long way! I recall after a few sledge hammer blows indices would fall off!
