Rolex Sky-Dweller 336235-0002 ZF Review

I fell in love with the Sky-Dweller in the Everose gold after seeing it in person. I initially began looking at the slate dial model but the Chocolate dial grew on me over time. After evaluating my current collection, I’m happy that I went with the Chocolate. There is a certain elegance that comes with this color. You wouldn’t go wrong with the slate or the chocolate in my biased opinion.

I must give credit to @steve_theonewatches https://www.theonewatches.ws/index....h=zf+336235&product_id=17552&search=zf+336235

for quickly sourcing this watch, suppling me with the QC photos, and shipping it to me lighting fast. I couldn’t be happier with his customer service and transaction process. He’s never let me down.

Here are some specifications as taken from Steve’s website:

MOVEMENT:Asian 2824 Automatic Movement ,28800vph
CASE DIAMETER:42mm
THICKNESS:14mm
DIAL COLOR:Brown Dial with Stick Markers (Superlume on Markers and hands)
CASE MATERIAL:18K Rose Gold Plated Solid Stainless Steel 904L
BRACELET: Black Rubber Strap with Deployant Buckle
FRONT GLASS: Sapphire Crystal (Etched Rolex Emblem at 6:00 on the Sapphire Glass)
BACK GLASS: Solid Case Back
BEZEL: Fluted Bezel
CLASP TYPE: Hidden Rolesor Clasp
OTHER REMARKS: Waterproofed to 30m direct from Factory

My initial impressions is that I have a very eye-catching watch that is weighty and really completes a lot of dress and business-casual outfits that I have in mind. Like all the oysterflex models, I can wear this causally, but I see paring more nicely with my Fendi, Armani, and Burberry, than with my Carhart, Tommy, or Levi’s.

I feel the dial color is washed out on the example on Rolex’s website. The ZF model is very close in color to the genuine model, even giving that special shimmering shine as you move the watch from side to side.

Evaluating the dial there are some things that I wish ZF had done better such as the ROLEX font (edit: I'm looking at a lot of gen wristshots and they look very similar to ZF and NOT like the gen example from Rolex on their website) I made a mistake at pulling the example from Rolex's website (GEN example on right) because the font there does not match what they are actually producing (see bottom photo above). The ZF compared to GEN (bottom photo) does reveal a slightly thicker font and a tiny spacing difference. The thickness of the red border on the inverted triangle does seem to be slightly thicker on ZF than either GEN example. The square cutouts on the ZF dial seem to have a slightly rounded look when compared to the perfectly square cutouts on the genuine model. You will also notice a slight spacing issue at the 12’ position between the cornet and the marker. None of these "issues" would ever be noticed while being worn and only noticeable from macro shots.

The font and spacing on the GMT dial seem to be very accurate on the ZF dial compared to the genuine. The GMT is fully functional, allowing you to track two time zones if you wish.

A deep red rectangle in one of the 12 windows around the dial indicates the current month and must be adjusted each month. Unlike cheap versions of this watch, the ZF model comes with a fully functional rotating bezel that will turn the month disc allowing the deep red rectangle to show through the dial.

It is impossible to ignore the weight of this watch. I put it on my postal scale at work and it weighed a hefty Imperial 6.6oz (Murica’) or 187 grams putting this very close to what a genuine model would weigh. Side note, if you are considering buying a Sky-Dweller, the weight was more important to me than I realized. Spend the money and get they tungsten heavy model.

Edit: Added additional Gen pic from member (Below)

The precision cutting of the bezel is magnificent. I don't have a complaint. I have not put a ton of evaluation into the crown because it seems you can't please everyone so be my guest to form your own opinion.

The Oysetrflex rubber is very comfortable and has become my new favorite to wear. Nothing beats the comfort of an Oysterflex. The clasp is a folding Osyterclasp with Rolex Glidelock extension system. Once you have a Glidelock, you become spoiled. One note: the clasp is too sharp for my liking at the opening. For all the wonderful functional features they put into this watch, I wish they would have done a little better job on the clasp, but it’s not a deterrent for me.

In summary, I would never let some differences observable on macro shots prevent me from owning this watch. I have to talk myself out of buying the slate dial model as well. I LOVE THIS WATCH!

I would not hold your breath for a better version of this watch. The demand is not there for them to continue refining this model.

If people give this watch a chance it you would see it explode in popularity. It is a keeper for sure!

@Dave2302 , these are for you. ;)

Forgive me for not taking all the plastic off. I was rushed and just didn't care to. I wish I had.

That's a beautiful watch bro. And such a great color combo. I've loved this model since my first year in reps (2018) and have always had 2 or 3. Yours is a great example, maybe I need another one haha. Thanks for the great review and pics. Wear it well my friend!

Pretty much the reason why I sold my daydate waffle dial. Beautiful watch, and I thought I didn't care about the weight, but it almost felt like wearing a 80's digital Casio...

I've made a similar mistake before but was not going to make it with this. I'm so glad I didn't.

After reviewing many pics of the genuine model, I found that the ROLEX font did not match what Rolex put on their website.
A member gave me photos of their genuine model to use as examples which I have added to the review.

thank you for the writeup! you're right, ZF did a phenomenal job with the Skydwellers overall. I have a stainless green dial and i absolutely love it. The only watch I think they messed up on is the blue dial, its darker than gen / noob

With that being said, how do you feel about the rose color? ive been itching to get a rose with blue dial....and have passed on a few M2M because in some pictures it looked orange...so ive been hesitant. although now that im writing this, im realizing I am confusing the manufacturer. i dont think ZF makes the rose/blue dial

im actually not sure how close to gen the green dial is, i think its like 80% close, might be a little darker than gen, but not as dark as the blue is.

they did a better job on the case than Noob did, but also Noob came out with the watch much earlier

I reckon taking light into account it's pretty close, better than the blue ;)

I may be near an AD and will wear mine to try to compare. I don't own many RG watches so it's hard for me to form an opinion.
