ZF Calatrava Officer’s Caseback 5227

I am also buying the 5227 having the 5296 (what gives me courage is that I had already bought my cf strap haha).

I personally wanted the 5227 instead of 5296, but my only drawback was the color of the dial, so I decided to buy the 5296.

I think the dial color is incredible and the round bezel looks much better than a flat one.

Ok great question! To mirror Godfathar 's review and perspective, as well as BIONONE 's, the 5227 is a classic yet modern dress watch, and here's why I'm going to be getting it despite the redundancies:

1. No rep has ever had a decent lacquered ivory dial (to my knowledge)
2. The ZF 5296G (non-sector dial) is very well done, but this has a few key differences
   1. Contoured scalloped lugs
   2. Ivory dial
   3. Officer's caseback
3. The upgrades over the BP version(s)
   1. thinner than both v1 (I think) and v2
   2. Dial color/depth
   3. Date font
   4. Movement finishing/balance wheel placement
   5. Thinner seconds hand
   6. Longer minute hand
   7. Crisp printing
   8. Better executed minute track
4. The added character from the contoured scalloped lugs (I seriously love it)

The engraving on the officer's caseback is present on certain gens, and missing on others, so this one is fine for not having it engraved.

To sum it all up: I sold my 5296G non-sector dial, and for the reasons in #2, I am getting it haha.

Godfathar maybe I am mistaken. I just thought I saw a thread about a black dial Patek chrono where you got the seconds hand painted white and the "IS" painted "15" in gradue pour 15 pulsations.. maybe it was somebody else...

Godfathar i just found your review on the 5975P. I mistaked it for the 5070. Great review btw as always. And incredible modding which makes it a very unique piece. The gen is worth 2.5 time its retail price by now in just 5 years. Incredible.

I’m excited to see this model released. It’s 1mm thicker than gen but it looks very promising to me. I do have the ZF 5296 and it’s splendid.

Genta2014 it depends on what you want. If your looking for a gen like croc strap then go for the supplier of Patek which is Camille Fournet. But better prices than Patek. For my next black dial I will choose a burgundy or green strap as both goes well with black dials.
Monochrome watches can also provide you with good quality at better prices but only 4 colours.

if you're looking for something less traditional and a more stylish look which also is much cheaper I suggest you look at A Collected Man. Their Nubuck straps are classy. I have one myself.
