Yachtmaster II - Functions?

OK, I'm just trying to understand the newer Yachtmaster II and it's functions. It has a 10 minute countdown, which as I understand it, incorporates the red triangular hand (pointing at the minute) and the red second hand (counting down seconds backwards???). The subdial is the seconds? Is this right?

I have seen a few reps. One version says faux chrono and working 10 min countdown. Now I'm confused. Is the red seconds hand a chrono or a countdown? I looked on Rolex's site and couldn't really get any functional info.

So I guess to sum it up: How does the Gen work? And how do the available reps work?

Speaking of reps, the few I've seen seem to be way off on the bezel. The dial looks ok, and it looks like it has a polished SDDS clasp, but the bezel either has the Yachtmaster II wording in the correct size but spaced too far apart, or spaced correctly and the size too small. Also, the bezel fluting looks un-gen-like :p Has anyone seen a good rep? I really like the SS & grey dial on WE but I'd like to find out more about the watch before diving in.

Sorry if this has already been answered but I couldn't seem to search out much info on the Yachtie II.

Thanks! :D

...The GEN Yacht-Master II has the codename "Regatta" on its label too, and as the name says, it´s a watch specifically designed to be used on regattas.
The countdown function helps the skipper to keep track of the preparation time before the start of a regatta, which happens exactly 10min after the preparatory signal.

This vid below is about the TAG-Heuer Calibre S 'Regatta' but shows what the 10min. countdown was made for:

...I think you can get the idea of it from now on :D
Dunno how the rep is working so far, tho. I´ve heard that they have actually implemented a countdown function on the newer ones, but dunno how it was made.
The Subdial is running seconds on the GEN.

If you have this watch in mind on your "to-buy" list, just keep also in mind that the GEN Yellow Gold version has a Cerachrom Blue Bezel, just like the Ceramic Submariner does, and it´s not replicated on ANY of the reps (all of them are low-end cheap reps for this model of watch).

Cheers,
:)

As above the count down dial does not work on most reps of this watch. All the ones I have seen use a A21J MVT so it's impossible to make it function as it should. No one actualy uses these for their intended purpose. There is a huge LCD readout on the mast root and in front of the helmsman with a bloody loud alarm. On smaller craft a quartz yachting watch has a lot more functionality with audible alarms at 5min, 2min and a series of beeps for the last 45sec. I have one somewhere.

I actually like the white gold version, so it would be SS for me. Not a huge yellow gold fan. Just a generational thing, I think.

Anyway, is the white gold version only available with the white face? Meaning the grey dial would be fantasy? I couldn't find any gallery shots on Rolex's site other than the white gold with white dial.

So does the red second hand on the gen work in reverse, or CCW, as to countdown the seconds? The rep on WE says working 10 min countdown, but faux chrono. My interpretation is that the 10 min triangular hand does count down but the red seconds hand is either dead or just runs CW.

Any hopes of getting a better rep version, or is there too low of a demand on these?

Yep, the Yacht-Master II is only available on the GEN with white dial. (being it in yellow gold or white gold) ...So, any variation away from this is fantasy. There´s no grey, black or blue dials for this watch on the Rolex range.

I don´t remember how the big seconds hand work on the GEN now...There was a app on Rolex Site where you could play with the watch function, and start/stop/reset the countdown feature and stuff, but I really can´t remember about it now..

The demand for this is too low, I don´t see many followers of that style even on the GEN side. Ppl call it "Clown-Master" ...I´m also not sure if the rep is the correct size aswell. The GEN is 43mm big, just as the DEEPSEA (but not as thick)
I´d like to see a Yellow gold version being properly repped, with the Ceramic bezel and all, although I´m not a fan of this model tho. the White Gold would do just fine anyway...

Cheers,

My first rep was a yachtie (canal st.), making this a nostalgia thing for me :p My plan is to move to Fla and live on a boat when my job/facility closes in 1-2 years, so this would be a great rep!! :)

I posted about this watch a little while back, got almost no responses.
So allow me to help and educate.
Hont carries this watch, and his version HAS the working countdown timer, and the running secs at 6. His version is 43mm. I know, I have one.
I keep seeing posts about how no rep of this has the correct count down timer, false.

As far as how it functions, here is what I have learned from mine:
Bottom pusher resets timer to the 10min position.
Top pusher starts and stops the the timer. (although mine works inconsistantly)
The red sec hand runs constantly on mine. Not sure if this is correct or not, I am going to order another from Hont to compare. I believe the gen red sec hands runs when you start the timer, stops when you stop the timer, and resets to 12 oclock. but I have not verified this. Also, on the gen you can set the countdown timer to what ever mins you want from 10 to 1. Cant do that on the rep.

Its a 21 jewel asian movement. Keeps great time.
Honts sell it for $100.
