Will a rep without the printed brand be a Homage or still a Fake, Rep...?

Would you still buy it.? Assume super rep quality wise?

Of course I wouldn't buy it. For example, a brand-less Submariner that's 'super-rep quality'? Hell no... You can buy an Invicta that's 10 times the quality for half the price. We pay for the watch being a replica of the original.. including the brand name.

Yes. I would definitely by a Pannie homage without the name on it...thinking of putting one together soon. :D

Would depend on the watch... most of the watches that "Speak" to me, no one I know has ever seen anywhere or heard of... so sure... Most Pams I'd be fine without the dial markings, the HBB is still a neat design to me, the Royal Oak would still be a nice watch... but price would have to reflect the change in dial... less detail = less I'd be willing to pay.

A few others, I'd prefer to keep the logos intact because they "make" the otherwise boring/bland watch... Speedys, Planet Ocean, Any Rollie...

This has been discussed many times. And the majority answer is no. That's why every forum homage watch has failed.

Hi Fake,

Intrigued by your comment,

So many forum-homage watches have been done and failed? I'm relatively new to Rep forums. basically, your saying if we did a RWI-darkside (with Killer logo) PAM here it would fail? How would we benchmark success of failure? 25-50-100 orders? I think we should do another one...

I have a couple of them, and would consider doing it again.

I'm with OiRogers and Swissaddict, it does have to be something that hasn't essentially had it's design "ripped off" by another brand (Invicta, Croton, DeBeaufre, Marcello C, et al).

I also prefer the "no logo" brand of those watches where the rep is not all that accurate, but still looks great in it's own right.

Well a little while ago I asked people's opinion on it. I think maybe three responded. But even if you could get let's say 50. The problem there is you could never get them to agree. Five want Pams. Five want Breits etc. Honestly Pams have been done to death. Let's come up with something new. I thought about doing custom RWI dials for my PVDs. But like I said unless the watch says ROLEX on it, then what SA said seems to apply.

Sure I would. So would lots of people. Look at all the PAM homages DSN, Homer, Naples Watch, International Watchman, etc. sell on the gen forums.

But those are on the gen forums. I think the rep buyer primarily buys for the name.

From the above two comment.. The Gen forum buy for quality and/or art.. The Rep forum buy for the brand..

More comment ... please.. come on.

I know lots of rep owners that also own "sterile" or "homage" watches. I'm one of them, in fact. This mostly applies to PAM homages, though.

Panerai lovers will buy hommages... But that's because the most distinctive and recognizable things about a Panerai are its case shape, crown guard, dial design, etc. - not the name. So a PAM Hommage is still distinctively Panerai, and therefore basically a rep. But a Datejust with no "Rolex" brand on it? There are a hundred brands that make watches that look like that. The thing that makes a Rolex look distinctively like a Rolex is the name brand on it.

+1...Nobody would pay the exhorbitant prices (when compared to quality) of most reps without the counterfeit brand name. That would just be stupid...... :D

I'm sorry, you're missing the point.. What I meant is a quality, swiss Unitas or Valjoux.. only without the famous brand name. Like the PAM homage.. exactly. But it doesn't have to be a Pam homage, could be AP, Bret...Navitimer, B&R. IWC etc..

Yep I'm one too. The dial simplicity of the Pannies make them good homage watches. You can put a swiss movement in them and have a great looking watch plus you eliminate some of that negative stigma attached to fake watches.

I don't think a Breitling or Rolex would look as good..just MHO.
