World War II - quartz watch !!!!

Saw this on the bay

The first quartz watches were thought to have been developed in the late 60s
Surprisingly cheap for something this rare ....

...not really World War II. Quartz watches not developed until late 60's & mass produced during the 70's -- even Rolex made one (OysterQuartz). This is more of a World War II "style" watch. The site says its age is year 2000. Be careful here.

I am a vintage watch buff and collect WWII watches. There were no quartz then, and there are many reproduction and homage watches. Careful what you buy.

It's authentic. I know this because he's using a tape measure in inches to show dimension rather than the metric system. The metric system didn't come out until after WWII.

I just looked at this watch and OF COURSE you did not think it was authentic:

Quartz, US Bureau of Ships, canteen crown protector, modern Rolex style hands, and pristine lume numbers wouldn't fool anyone. It would be a neat little beater if it weren't so... little.

Too bad this wasn't a "German" watch being sold from Ukraine. Then the seller could have cooked up an elaborate story about secret experiments on quartz movements in Peenemunde, alongside the Vengeance 10 Nazi Moon Rocket. Unfortunately, all we got was a load of BU SHIPS!

I'd be very hesitant to purchase ANY watch on eBay .. no matter how good the deal looked ... I may be overly cautious, but it just seems too easy to get scammed there ..

Based on what I've see, about 3/4 of all watches advertised on the Bay as "WWII" are fake.

It's damn cold at 25.000 feet. The strap is made to go over your flight suit in the same way the very long velcro strap on a NASA Moonie goes over a space suit.
