Will Rolex ever make larger watches?

I'm curious. I know Rolex is steeped in tradition and all that blah blah stuff but the market seems pretty strong on 42mm and larger watches, Rolex can't have not noticed this trend. I'd love to see a 42mm or larger Sub. I have the feeling they'll never do it though what with all the tradition and whatnot they curl up with at night with. Sigh, just thinking out loud here.

40mm is the perfect size. It fits most occasions and wrists.. for those who want bigger Rolex models, there are the DEEPSEA in 43mm and the Yacht-Master II in 44mm..

...I really think a 42mm Sub would be out of place or at least not as elegant.

Cheers,
Spirit.

Explorer II 216570 is 42...I think this is the first example of where the sub cases are headed. Sub classic is the perfect 40, the Sub C is kinda getting chunky. At 42 the sexy lines come back.

Big watches are a fad. In 10 years people will look back and wonder WTF they were thinking. 40-42mm is the perfect size. I hope Rolex doesn't build anything bigger. Can you imagine how stupid a 48mm Submariner would look?

i don't know if i agree with it or not aesthetically. but i believe you are right. i think rolex is trying to "move up" gradually. who knows? but i think they want to have newer more exclusive models. a larger case and ceramic bezels achieve that.

Sorry folks, I'm here to disagree. Rolex should open their eyes and accept the current trend for bigger watches.

Take the Omega PO, you can have it in 42 or 45.5mm. Most (and I stand to be corrected) prefer the 45.

I like the look of Rolex but the limited size range has prevented me from pulling the trigger so far. A 44mm Sub would be ideal.

Just sayin'.

How could those clown-size watches even be comfortable? I own the 41mm DD and like it because it's balanced well, but over 45mm and it is too much watch, imho ...

Clown size?

It's each to their own in my opinion. We like what we like. No set rule!

Wear what you want and enjoy it. I, personally, like a watch in the 44mm range. The DSSD has never appealed to me.

I don't judge anybody by their watch choice. If you like it, go for it!

It would be a very boring world if we were all the same.

Very few people can pull off wearing a 50mm or larger watch imo, but I will admit, it is only an opinion and of course, where what you want in good health !

Yes, when I think "big" watch I'm thinking 50mm and up. I have 45mm watches and love wearing them but I just cant pull off anything bigger. Some people can pull off 50mm .... but most can't and wear it anyway.

Just my personal opinion.

i'm big. not fat; but big. and i think the current sub-c is more than enough. i like the pams a lot, it seems what is ok to wear is getting bigger and bigger. women wear 40mm+ watches now. it's a whole different style. rolex will adapt i'm sure...

I've had both and prefer the 42. I'm not the only one. I don't think you can say "most" unless you try and measure it first.

Will Rolex ever make larger watches? Aren't they doing it with every single line?

Yachtmaster II 44mm
Deepsea 43mm
Explorer II 42mm
Sub C 40mm
GMT II C 40mm
Datejust II 41mm
Explorer I 39mm

All have recently (for Rolex at least) grown from their predecessors, 2-5mm. You just know a larger Daytona is coming, given the above trend. I was worried Rolex lost the plot with the Sub C... just too fat for my tastes vs. the classic... but the Explorers, I & II, restored my faith.
