For me, safety reason? In case anyone wanna snatch my watch I'll give him the rep which is about 300bucks instead of a gen which is approx 6000.
Also I love the design of Tag grand carrera calibre watch which is not found on other cheaper brands. I'll be bankrupt if I buy those gen Tag.
It also become your collection and you can change your watch all the time to minimise wear and tear on one watch. I'm pretty sure you won't want to leave your gen watch in your house when you got a new watch in fear that it will be stolen or rust in your cupboard. ^^
Anyways, it's just my personal opinions.

Why?

Some collect beer bottle cap....
other girlfriends...

It's a hobby, an expensive one, just far less expensive as if we were collecting gens!

Some collect girlfriends??
ANYWAY... I didn't even realize you could buy watches that look so good compared to the real deal until a few months ago. Thanks RWI. I have owned a few genuine Gucci's thats it. I love the fact that my Chanel J12 looks almost identical to the gen, and that I have saved myself thousands of dollars to spend on something other than a wrist ornament. I am rough with my watches, I take them off, and throw them on a counter, near the bathtub, sink, on top of the washing machine. I don't feel bad because it I lose it or break the watch, I'm only out about $100. I would hate to have spent thousands on a watch only to leave it behind on vacation (have done that before, and with expensive sunglasses too), so I guess reps put my mind at ease. I don't have to worry about it, or baby it as much as I would the real deal!

take it from me, i have been married 3 times. collecting genuine rolex's is cheaper than collecting wives. as for loosing or having an expensive watch stolen, thats what insurance is for. mine are covered anywhere in the world for non depreciative, replacement value. :)

Trailboss..you're too much!! lol
Nothing is coming after the J12. I am happy with the black one, got rid of the white one, and I have the Rolex for changing it up. I don't need anymore watches for now. Handbags...now thats a different story!! If something comes along (watches that is) and knocks my socks off, then I will likely buy it, but for now, I don't see anything that says "buy me"!!

3 times?? I don't judge..but haven't you learned your lesson?? lol
Yes, it would be cheaper for my husband to keep me, then to kick me to the curb, he'd have to buy rep underwear if we ever split!!

The reasons can be varied. I always wore just one gen watch, in the Seko or Citizen quartz range. It was just a tool so I wouldn't be late. When I started wearing a watch we did not have cell phones. I see many young people today who rely on their cell phone to tell the time. High priced gens seemed to be a wholly unnecessary cost to serve the same purpose; sort of like buying a Porsche 911 to commute to work everyday in gridlock traffic when a Honda would perform that task equally well for much less money. I would have been happy using one inexpensive gen for the rest of my but after I discovered these rep cites and obtained some education I wanted examples of many different watches. I just wanted to see what people were talking about by holding the object in my hands. I would not spend the money to buy many different gens but I could justify the money for many different reps.

In my opinion Chinese factory owners will constantly seek to "move upscale" in the items their factory produces because upscale items have a higher profit margin. Rolex could make even more money than it does now it if opened a genuine Rolex factory employing Chinese labor in China. We will see if any Swiss watch company ever does so. Eventually, China will have to enforce trademarks and counterfeit goods of all types, including reps, will be harder to obtain. I think we have about 10 or 20 years to get good reps produced relatively freely in Chinese factories. When China joins the rest of the world and cracks down on open rep factories the reps will be made in less open and less quality control circumstances. So I would say, buy them now while you still can.

But we will see. Maybe I am wrong and the reps will just keep getting better and better forever.

I had a have been into watches for years and originally bought fashion watches, such as Guess & Diesel. As I got more and more into them I began to learn about Gen's and look at watches way out of my price range. About 2 years ago I stumbled upon rep dealers online and bought 2 Breitlings, a terrible Panerai rep and a decent B&R. One of the Breitlings wasn't accurate at all but didn't cost much, the other was a Navitimer world which was a fairly accurate copy, but the bezel and crystal fell off!!!! More research led me here where I found dealers with fantastic watches, dealers who stand behind what they sell and I learned about modding. I've bought and sold at least 10 reps and moved on to ones I liked more, but until I wear a rep and ignore all my other watches it's hard to justify a $5000+ price tag for something I may not like in a few months.

Thanks to this forum and some others I've learned a great deal about watches, how to take things apart and replace parts, I even began making straps and have a decent amount of 'watch' tools. I've fixed watches for friends and built a few from parts. If I had simply bought a Gen Breitling a year ago I don't think I would understand watches as I do now.
