Why the popularity in Pam reps but not gens?...

Hey guys,looking thru the thread totals here,you will see that there are far more threads on the Pam forum then the other brands,but most Pam owners will tell you "most people have not heard of Panerai"....so whats the deal?...i like my Pam reps as well,but had never heard of Panerai till i came across these boards....why is there such a demand for pam reps when there seems to be no demand fo gens?...or am i missing something?.... 8)

There's an extremely high interest in gens, just take a look at the Panerai Timezone forum or Paneristi.com.

The problem is -- the gens are very expensive with a price point much higher than most watches of similar quality. The 111h is a $2000 watch, not a $4000 one. This sort of pricing is deliberate in order to make the watch more "exclusive," by limiting who can "afford" a Panerai and who can't. Other tactics used include their stringent AD requirements and their decision to make limited quantities of each model (and then discontinue them on a whim).
