Why not better Breguet and Patek reps?

I see that these watches don't even have their own named sub-forums.. they're in the "other" category. But Patek and Breguet are the highest-end watches on this side of the galaxy. Why aren't they more popular as reps? Are they so unknown by the hoi polloi that nobody bothers to wear one since 999 out of 1000 people have never even heard of them? Would wearing a rep of a $100,000 watch get fewer comments and looks than a rep of a $10,000 watch? I'm starting to think so.

It's like the girl who is a '10' who gets hit on less than the girl who's a '7'.. Are there some things that are so out of everyone's league that they almost become invisible?

Or is it simply because they're not sporty enough for people nowadays? They are extremely elegant dress watches after all. Do people wear a dive-watch with their suit?

It's because they don't say Rolex on the dial.
As PWC often said...Rep factories don't care for us collectors.

It's a business, they sell what ever they have and what ever gets sold.

Mostly Rolex or Pam or Omega...It's just the way it is.

I understand but if there were a tremendous demand for them, as there are for Rollies, then they'd make 'em and make 'em better than they do. The question is, why is there a big market for Rolex reps but not for reps of watches that are actually far more expensive and "higher class" than Rolexes?

My theory is that Breguets and Pateks are so far out of the realm of the average person that they don't even show up on his radar. Thus, low demand for reps, thus, the reps that are available are crap.

And I think the truth is not enough demand for any one particular model of either brand.
Irony is that even if they did make 'em we would complain about the quality and accuracy to the gen.

It's a frustration of mine too, but as Bonesey's megathread illustrates, there are a few decent-ish Breguet reps worth looking at.

All depends on if they actually have those in stock. The dealers often dont remove listed reps that are no longer available.

Some Pateks are very complicated and building a accurate or accurate enough rep would be costly. Parts for Rollies are everywhere and they have a high demand. Personally i could not pull off a Patek gen or rep so i would not really consider it for myself.

Because, whether most of us admit it or not, we wear replicas for appearances, and Breguets and Pateks only impress those in the know.

Furthermore, given the exceptional fit and finish of a genuine Breguet or Patek, one would have to spend a small fortune for a credible replica. How about something like $2K for a solid gold Patek calatrava replica?

And as alluded to above, only a small number of us would be able to convince people that the watch on our hand is actually a $20K (on the low end) genuine Patek, and most certainly don't want everyone we run into (whether they call us on it or not) to think that we wear replicas.

that's right, and those in the know will know that your Breuget or Patek is a fake too.

Makes sense. The set of people who could afford a Breguet or Patek gen is so small that anybody who knows about them will instantly know that yours is a rep, defeating the purpose of the rep. It would be like owning a fake Faberge egg--anybody who knows anything about them will know there's no way you could get a real one.
