Why is there no gold watches?

Hey!

Might be a silly question, but it's just something I thought i'd ask and perhaps get the answer to.
After monitoring the used watch sales section, I noticed alot of people sell watches, yet not alot of them are gold.
Is this just preference regarding color, or is the gold replicas something people tend to stay away from? Looking to learn here if that is the case :)

Thanks for any answers regarding it!

For me, the gold color doesn’t match what a true gold metal would look like. I have a few that are wrapped, but once they get a bit worn down,I’ll have to figure out what to do.

only my 2 cents.

The straight from the factory yellow gold reps tend to be a bit cheddary in appearance, while the white gold reps tend to be a bit too shiny in appearance compared to the real deal.

So a lot of folks tend to avoid the full gold reps or have them plated or wrapped by a TD or a trusted modder, which of course comes at an additional cost.

Straight up. Plating is just off, and I wear the fuck out of my watches, so it doesn’t take long for the nature of the REP to show through…

Honestly great comments from all of you!
The color fading was what I feared was the reason, or just the color being "off". Was wondering if some of the models actually were good replicas but.. I kinda felt what everyone here was saying, just wanted to get it confirmed.

I'm not asnqorried about fading, as I am with the incorrect tones. I'm a fan of YG Rolexes and the current plated options are a bit off. Some look like straight up mustard.

Damn really, that bad? I thought the clean daytona's would be good!

I’m on the fence about getting a GMF Day Date 36 to replace my tired looking one from years ago, it’s tough to tell what the color of the gold really looks like even from video so I remain slow and reluctant for now.

I'm not 100% sure why I thought this, but I just assumed the gold replicas would have a nice color considering some of the clean factory Daytonas are at like $800-900.
Any of you kings got pictures from your personal gold replicas?

The thing about gold plated watches is to SET EXPECTATIONS.

In my eyes no rep has gotten gold correctly.

Rep gold always have loads of caveats. Durability. Color matching. Etc. Plating fading. However some factories have gotten close.

Gold color changes in light. Put that Bluesy next to a real Rolex gold or in sunlight and the cheddar comes out.

Even replated watches will still have issues sometimes and are not the end all solution.

It's just like when you're a kid and start jumping into the deep end of the pool. It isn't unsafe but there's lots of issues to be aware of.

OP you can read one of my experiences here.

That being said you can have some really nice pieces. Here's my 166g Tungsten gold plated Daydate. Holds great.

I think it's all about expectations, lighting and the more you study something. At the end of the day they are replica watches.
I wore a 2T sub most days to work for many years and the only marks were scuffed clasp. 2T and All Gold replacement Bracelets with logos aren't dear, nor are replacement Crowns.

I currently have three plated watches, just because I wanted them in my display cabinet to break up the sea of Stainless and WG. All three are Rolex, two are 2 tone Subs, and I bought an all gold YMII to sit in between them in the centre of one of my two Rolex shelves.

They get occasional 'mindfully careful' use, around once every couple of months. I have no issues at all, perhaps I got lucky, the Gold matches perfectly with the genuine 18ct diamond ring I'm wearing with the Bluesey ....

I must say, some of the watches being posted here is absolutely beautiful!
It's a really good read for me, being new to this to hear everyones experiences and thoughts on the topic. Perhaps it's hard to tell through pictures but yeah I really love some of the watches being posted here!

Let's say I were to buy or look into a seiko, which is stainless steel yellow colored - Would that "Look better"? It's hard for me to tell because I honestly think all your watches look stunning! Thanks again for being humble to help my research

Unsurprisingly, the TT steel/gold models are generally less eye-wateringly bad than the factories' FG efforts. Even the VSF TTs don't look completely awful. Their FGs however are completely awful (or were, the last - and only - time I owned one).

And also unsurprisingly, some factories are far better than others. JDF/GMF full gold is pretty damned good. My JDF FG DayDate 40 has a spot-on gold tone. BP have also always been well regarded for their fake gold. I've not had any full gold from Clean, but my TT GMT II LN is excellent.

And also also unsurprisingly, it's all a matter of taste. Some folk are more than happy to walk round with what looks like an irradiated cheddar sculpture on their wrist.
