i know a guy, drives a porsche...

has 8 properties.

all his watches are unmodded replicas... from china, with the supposedly swiss ETA.

he explained his rationale... his porsche can't be fake, his houses can't be fake.

naturally, people won't think he is wearing a fake watch !

I buy certain watches because i think they look good.
I don't care if they are quartz or mechanical, auto or manual, tourbilon, ...
(Altough i can really apreciate the fine engineering of a mechanical watch)

I have some quartz gens that cost 50€, 500€.
Replicas that would cost 10000€ if they would be gen.
I really don't care how much they would be worth.
I don't factor it in in my decision to buy it.
If I think a watch looks good on my wrist, I buy it.
I don't buy it in the hopes some guy on the street or a girl in a bar, recognises it, and thinks i'm a successfull man.

My 50€ Guess quartz watch actually gets the most comments by girls, because they think it's a nice watch.
Not because it looks expensive.

You wanna be succesfull and have people admire you?
Start by not worrying what other people think of you, get more confident, and you're halfway there...

Love this.

One thing I realized early on was the difference consumers between the luxuries houses lines.

Example Burburry makes a shirt with the check pattern an all over pattern. It screams $. All the houses have it, Coach with their all over print. LV with there aswell. But those products are targeted towards another type on consumer. The one who wants a bit of "bling"

These companies may sell a few of there all over pattern products. But what really defined them was the super simple products. The perfectly executed products. Thats what made them whothey are, before there brand had an icon. The perfect black Armani Blazer, the beautiful all brown leather coach. (with only a tiny tiny logo on it). The iconic Burberry Trench. These helped defined these companies and the only way to know is by a tiny tag on the inside.

To me there something powerful about wearing something so nice only those who are intimate with you will know. Theres powerful about the idea that the only time someone knows that you had a burberry shirt on was when they took it off you.

hehe...

that's my point.

we profile people all the time.

as much as we may deny it, and claim equality.

but equality like justice is ... a luxury good.

That's pretty accurate. As long as you look the part, no one will question your time pieces. If you drive an AMC Pacer and live in a trailer , no one's going to buy into your Patek being real.

I'm sorry to say this, if it's true that you won those awards and can't even buy at least one luxury watch (regardless of brand), you sound like an el-cheapo to me.

In this day and age, you have a point there.

hmm,

at my current lifestage, I can't afford a luxury watch that costs 1% of my total assets.

so, yes, brand me el cheapo, I rather use my money for investments.

I would not mind buying a luxury watch, where the price is at most 1% of my assets.
