Why are Panerais so popular?

G'day FM
I admit to having the same idea as OP that PAMS are popular. I had never heard of them until discovering this forum and it seams to me that its one of the most talked about watches. I am not saying they are popular it just seems to ME that there are a lot of pics, questions, mods etc on PAMS. ie I have never seen a super repped Breitling, AP, Cartier etc. Aside from your work (omega & rolex) PAMS seem to me to be the watch everyone wants modded.
Just my point of view.
If you ever made one Fakey I would buy it not because its a PAM but because its a FM.

Coming from the wisemen that have well over 1000 posts. simple yet straight to the point. just like a PAM.

Well, it was tongue in cheek, but there's some truth to it (and I was speaking mostly of gens). Everyone I know who bought a PAM before, say, three or four years ago, bought it because they literally wanted a coo-coo clock on their wrist so they could see the time clearly. I believe even Sly himself became fond of PAMs because of his poor eyesight. Now 90% of yuppy bankers I have met has a PAM. It's ridiculous. One of these bankers was showing me pictures of his holiday in St Tropez, when he hired a section of the beach off for a week with a bunch of fellow merchant bankers... :roll: Every single bloke in the picture had a PAM... It was hilarious! ...Maybe because they can do big lines of coke off them?? :lol:

Why do we love PAM? Let me count the ways.

1. We love PAM because of its simple elegance.
2. We love PAM because of its sexy shape.
3. We love PAM because of its unusual CG.
4. We love PAM because of its many shoes.
5. We love PAM because of its glow.
6. We love PAM because of its sexy back.
7. We love PAM because it yearns for our touch.
8. We love PAM because of its Italian pedigree...

This sums it up for me also, but let me add that the Panerai design is like a work of art.
Something about the ability that many Italians have to creat products with a stylish line, and aesthetic flair that shreds the competion. Be it, Ferarri, Lamborghini, Versace. Dolce Gabana, Farragamo, even Alfa Romeo. The Italian flair in design is pure sex.

I think pam reps are so fun because of their versatility, we could change shoes for them, bath them, coat them with pvd, lume them, polish their ass (oops, crownguards) and they are like toys to me

I remember the first time I saw a Panerai - ''Transporter'' and then ''Transporter 2''. In the former, Jonathan Stratham was wearing the Marina, in the latter, the Daylight. It was love at first site lol.
I started doing research and found out this was his personal watch and wanted it in the film. Those watches took beatings and always looked great.
I've had several Panny's and MMs in my collection and have gotten more compliments from them then any other watch. I also think the fascination has a lot to do with all the variations of straps that are available. Even the bracelets for these are incredible.
If I had a choice for a gen, and just one watch, it would be a Panerai, with several straps and a bracelet.

because they are expensive so they must be cool. I mean $1000 for a rep? Really? I don't get it. Don't get me wrong, I like the PAM simplicity and styling but some folks have gone off the deep end with it. But whatever floats your boat...

I like it because the makers seem to have gotten it right, its one of the most accurate reps in the market... its fun changing the straps... and its an interesting design...

Enlightening thread. I too couldnt see the PAM 'mania' thats on this forum when I joined. Yes., I'd heard of them but thought them an ugly and plain, then I remembered the song about the 'ugly duckling' and yes they've grown into something of a swan in my eyes. Still not my favourite watch, but I'd have one for the collection if someone wants to do a deal with me on something I've got.

Yeah when I first saw them I thought they were ugly... but then came around to my liking... I like how it looks vintage, love the history of it and love all the action heroes that wear it... This thing is a beast so I had a homage done by davidsen... Pretty sweet...
