I have been torn on selling any watch with boxes and papers. I have turned down a very attractive trade when someone offered me some very nicely printed panerai papers because I do not like to promote boxes or papers and prefer not to sell them.

I feel that people will use them to pull scams on unsuspecting people on ebay and elsewhere. I know many of you on here and know you would never do such a thing but that does not keep these thoughts from entering my mind.

Am I just overly cautious when it comes to my position on boxes and papers? Should I lighten up on my position towards these items?

Help me understand the draw to these items as I have never felt any desire to own them.

I like the boxes mainly for display purposes and to keep the watches in. Just like if I have a gen watch, I much prefer to keep the watch in the original box it came in...Boxes with the papers can enhance a display but I agree with you, I think there are those that would use these items to further scam someone. My only problem with boxes is they take up a lot of space.

One other thing about these boxes. I have seen some selling "gen" boxes but who can tell the difference between a rep box and a gen box. Most of them are probably made in China anyway.

I myself love boxes... I think they are great ways to store and protect your watches and make them more attractive... although, I would not want all boxes.. but say, for handwind Panerai, they're great.... I have two that hold my 001B and my 002D (when it comes back from Ziggy)... I see less sense in boxes for automatic brands, but they still do make good storage options...

I'm not into the papers themselves though... I'll check them out because it helps with familiarizing yourself with what comes with the gen... but not something I necessarily need...

The boxes do make great props for pictures too though...

If you're familiar with the brand, then it's almost impossible for you to be fooled by the rep box.... the difference in construction and details is night and day..

Take for example the gen Breitling box I sold last week... it has the inner leather case that houses the watch while in the box and that you can take with you when you travel to protect the watch... no replica box has had that detail...

Saying that, having never had experience with the Omega gen box, I would be hard pressed to authenticate it via pics... if you know the brand, you can tell what's gen and not gen...

I keep my TWB LV Sub in a gen box the rest in my watchbox. Why, because it's the watch that I have invested the most time in modding and is simply my labour of love and it 'completes it'. @D4M IMO boxes are fine, but papers are another matter...

I personally think B&Ps are great for "completing" the look. However, they take up far too much space (if you have a lot of good watches), so thats why I don't bother with rep boxes.

The problem of scamming is definately out there and more and more people are willing to take a chance on ripping someone off.

I would not import or trade in B&Ps for this reason. Its like supplying the recipe to make bombs! Someone will be determined to take it to the N-th degree...

the box and papers for our gen rolex's are stuffed in the closet. obviously if we were to ever sell them they would be very valuable but other than that they just take up space where fresh air could be. lmao

I have a small collection of boxes and paperwork from different watches over the years. They are all gathering dust nicely in the closet. I do not really understand the appeal either. I have however seen some very nice displays on this forum from some of the members.

Thanks LOS..I'ver never handled a gen Breitling box. I have Omega, Cartier and Rolex boxes that I purchased from our dealers and they seem pretty good, especially the Rolex box I bought from ThumbWa...wonder what ever happened to him?

I have never understood the box thing wither. If you are looking to store your watches then it doesn't matter what you use. And if it's for open display then they make no sense either because they only hold one watch and have no open top. So I am with D in the sense that people want them so they can add validity to their watch. Maybe not to sell but to somebody.

I can understand the boxes to an extent, such as display purposes. Personally I keep and prefer mine in a multiple watch box. The papers I think are another thing completely, I think 95% people who get the papers get them to try and pretend they have the real thing.

Can only see one reason to buy boxes, but never a reason for papers. I would buy a box if I were giving the rep as a gift. It would make for a much nicer presentation. The Chinese bubblewraping does not have much curb appeal. Would never buy either just to collect dust, or to scam. Well......maybe to scam, if TTK were buying!!

the quality of rep box compare to gen is poor.I have seen lost of fake boxes during my trips in far east. For display I have 2 wooden boxes which are holding 8 watches each. If people are buying gen boxes on ebay and pay 100 USD or more, they are up to something!

NOT ENTIRELY TRUE, THOUGH I FEAR IT WILL BE MORE TRUE THAN NOT.

I PURCHASED A GEN LADIES DATE JUST BOX FOR A DATE JUST I AM GIVING MY GIRL FOR XMAS. I HAVE A COUPLE ROLEX BOXES THAT I HAVE RECEIVED WITH A COUPLE REPS I BOUGHT RECENTLY, AND THE DIFFERENCE IS NIGHT AND DAY.

WHILE THEY ARE NICE TO KEEP YOUR WATCHES IN ON THE DRESSER, YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE TO HAVE A GEN TO COMPARE IT TO AND YOU KNOW IT'S NOT GEN.

BEING AS A GIFT, I WANTED TO MAKE IT AS NICE AS POSSIBLE, SO I OPTED FOR THE GEN BOX.

AND AS FAR AS THE WARR PAPERS THAT COME WITH REPS.... THE COUPLE I HAVE GOTTEN ARE THE SAME WAY. IF YOU FOR ONE MINUTE THINK IT'S GEN.... YOU DESERVE TO BE SCAMMED. (NOT REALLY, BUT YOU GET MY POINT)

IDEALLY A LARGER BOX TO HOLD MULTIPLE WATCHES WOULD BE BEST.... FOR FOR THE GUYS JUST GETTING STARTED... THE INDIVIDUAL BOXES ARE GREAT ADDITIONS...
