Who has a gen rubber Panerai strap?

I have to say, I hate the rep rubber strap. Very hard, inflexible and uncomfortable. If I'm going to wear this 026k as much as I want to be wearing it, it's going to need a new rubber strap.

Anyone tried on or own the gen strap? Is it softer? More flexible and comfortable?

This 026k rep strap is easily the worst rubber strap I've ever had on.

Try to submerge it into boiling hot water, it will help a lot on the softness issue. Also, when still warm, put it on your wrist (dont have to fry your hands:)) and it will bend slightly as well. It really helps a lot!

BTW: my rep strap which came with the 026k is VERY good. It is the one having slight vanilla scent, and quite comfortable! The one I've received with my 005k, that was disgusting..... :puke:

lol and if I think this is terrible I can only imagine what the strap on the 005k is like. This one also has a slight vanilla smell too it.

I'll give the boiling water a shot, since I'm planning on getting a gen strap anyways at this point.

Let me know please if you can source a gen for a reasonable price, I'd give it a try as well. Just beware from ebay scammers, they keep selling these vanilla smell ones as gens....

Any PAM strap having a vanilla scent is FAKE.

I live in NYC and there is a Panerai boutique close to me. I think I'm just going to go buy one there.

No matter how "close" a rep rubber strap is, it's not even close to the genuine rubber strap.

Buying a genuine rubber strap, though, is best purchased on p.com and not from an AD or Boutique. Secondary market value of a unused rubber strap is ~$100.

Of course, that's just my opinion. :)

I just ordered a Gen from risti. Guy says he never used it on his Gen. It's leaving France next monday and once it gets here I'll do a review. I have 2 Rep straps, one of the crappy dusty ones and the other is pretty good. We can see how they measure up to the Gen! Stay tuned!!

Was that due to the Vanilla smell?...Trying to tell the difference between the "Slight Vanilla". My 005K strap is fine but does smell.

The gen rubber is awesome, IMO. It's what I wear during the summer on my gen 000. I'm with Matt, get a near new 2nd-hand strap for about $100 instead of $200+ or whatever the ADs are charging.

Works for me, p.com you say? I can't get that website to load. What site were you talking about? I'm a little wary of eBay, and they all seem to run about $200 on ebay.

I called the store on Madison in Manhattan today. He said they sell them new for $150. I'm probably just going to pick one up from them tomorrow, then I can compare them :)

This 026k strap is so uncomfortable right now I essentially can't wear the watch!

The MSRP for a gen deploy or tang rubber strap is $150, however, if you have just a little patience, you'll be sure to buy one from paneristi.com for ~$100. If you spend more than $115, you're wasting money.

Just be patient, young Skywalker.

Buy the buyer, then buy the item(s) in which you're interested. That's how you should treat every single transaction on the Intrawebz, my friend.

That's hard to find out before buying, he was actually lucky since the seller did not know this "tell"...

What can I do with a seller on Paneristi if it turns out to be fake?
Apart from the vanilla smell, are there any tells?
I have some rep straps that do not have the vanilla smell, but I can't go to a local AD to compare, since we have none...
