I too am keeping an eye on this. I think the new GMT is too new and I will wait for someone to do a review on it first. The "ultimate" is priced the same way and has double-sided AR. But for the GMT it doesnt say anything about the AR being doulbe-sided yet it is priced the same. hmm...

I am also looking at these models. The lower version TWP has is also carried by Josh and Ruby for about $110 shipped. It is really a great low end rep and has improved AR from the first runs. Neither the 21J or 7750 are dead on to the original. The 7750 is very choppy and for the most part appears more obvious to be a rep. Both movements are far from rock solid reliability. The back case being better is the only real factor I can consider. I just can't justify the significant extra dollars. I believe I will go for the cheaper model and just move on to other conquests. If you want the higher quality model I would wait awhile and hope they make more improvements on the fonts, strap, AR etc to make it worth the money. I heard there is an ETA version floating around someplace as well. Although that is moving in the opposite direction for movement authenticity, at least that gives some reliability comfort over the 7750 and 21J.

Hi Monty,

Although the Chopard GTXL is not as popular as Rolex or Panerai. But it has been getting alot of attention eversince it was released. Just look at the number of people viewing the review by jb. I think it should be the clean and simplicity design that make us just wanna own it. Like I said, whichever version you choose. It is a very solid made rep.

For the white dial, it should have black datewheel and the solid caseback with engraving. That is version 1 from Silix's but wow  it has very light AR coating. The price justify anyone to pull the trigger if you are looking for something nice to wear as daily beater.

On the other hand, if you really want something closer to the gen at low and affordable price, TWP's (version 2) is highly recommended as it comes with the correct blackdatewheel both black or white dials. And you get cool looking tyre strap. Although I haven't purchase any watches from TWP, I read from many forum members that he is a nice guy to deal with.

For me, I got version 3 because version 2 was not out at the time when I bought it. So what are you waiting for? ...you lucky fellows :D

Had a chance to check out the real deal at the AD. I found the texture of the stap to be quite a bit different between the gen and the 21J rep I have. The texture feels more like the Tag Carerra stap. (Slick not sticky.) I have to say i'm pretty impressed with the quality of the dial and even the movement when comparing the two. The second hand the choppard isn't really that smooth. 21J matches pretty well believe it or not.

Does anyone have experience with the "ultimate". Could someone know how it compares to the gen?

Hi,

I own the ultimate version. I tried the gen at a AD while waiting for transit at the Bangkok airport. The second hand on the gen is also "jerky" which behave the same way like the ultimate version.

The difference is in the movement. The gen uses the swiss 7750 while the rep uses the asian 7750. On the gen movement, you'll see a regulator and some words describing the number of jewel engraved on it whereas the rep don't.

That's about all. The ultimate version is very very close to the gen (even the movement) except for the little left out details.

However, if you compared the 21J version rep with the ultimate version. The most obvious difference are

1. AR (light on 21J while the ultimate is very good)
2. The engraved words on the crown (reverse direction on 21J and correct on the ultimate version)
3. The numerals on the outer dial (thin on 21J and fat (like the gen) on the ultimate version)
4. The position of the crown (uneven gap between the CG (closer to the left if you look from the side because 21J movement is smaller than asian 7750) (Ultimate version is perfectly positioned)
5. The 3 screw on the rotor of 21J is incorrect whereas the ultimate version looks closer to the gen
6. The second hnad is shorter on 21J and correct length on the ultimate version.

My 2 cents and hope it helps in your selection

Is the gen strap available for purchase? How much do you think that would be?

Hi Trevor,

I don't know whether it was just me. The texture of the strap on 21J is a bit sticky and the word "Chopard" engraved on the deployant is painted black which is incorrect.

The ultimate on the other hand, feel slick (different rubber quality to 21J) and not sticky but the tyres pattern is not as sharp as the gen. However, it comes with a vanilla scent like the gen. The deployant is also copied like the real deal.

The difference in price has a meaning for each version.

:D

Good to know. Thanks.

Forgot to sniff the gen... And I thought watches were only about feeling and seeing.
