As I've said many times before, although the 12-9-6 version has a far better date window, the fact that the gen of this model has a BRUSHED CASE, makes it stand out as a rep from across the room. The 3-6-9 version is by far the more accurate of the two. If you feel like modding the Serie Speciale however...

I expect the Serie Speciale model in black from Joshua coming this week.

What's it cost to have it brushed?

Get it brushed, put it on a gen strap; and it's the best thing since sliced bread. The datefont is so much closer, and doesn't have the horrendously sunken datewheel.

Now who wants to brush a SS for me?

I find the 3-6-9 layout looks great from a distance but the date font on those reps is too bold and the datewheel is too recessed. There are 2 variations of the 12-6-9 that I have seen and 1 has a better date font/placement as compared to the other.Check some of the recent threads, especially Andreww's Navitimer Club thread and u'll see what Im talking about.

Having said this remember the watch always looks bigger in pictures and in reality is only 42mm which makes the date window reallllllly small so the date thaang can really be considered a non issue (unless ure one of us freaks)

If they just make an Old Navitimer rep, without the Serie Speciale dial, that'd save them all the criticism.

Also, I've never seen a genuine Serie Speciale blue dial. Anyone care to enlighten me??

12,9,6 configuration should be little more solid than the other one imo

Brushed ?

Not too many photos of the gen on the net, the one I managed to find is not brushed as it can be seen from the reflection on the case...

The two posted images are polished, not brushed. But, they are not the Serie Speciale that you are considering. They are images of the "Old Navitimer" that has a polished case. The "Serie Speciale" has red lettering over the 6:00 subdial and has the "Fighters" caseback. This watch only comes in a brushed finish, and as far as I can tell, only came in black (I could be wrong on that, but I have never seen a gen in any other color).

I seen a gen in white once, but the color of the rep is not even close (its cream).

As you can see, the "Old Navitimer" is polished with black register hands and the word "Automatic" on the 6:00 subdial...

It doesn't have the "Fighters" caseback

Serie Speciale or Fighters is brushed with red "Serie Speciale" over the 6:00 subdial (note that this is a silver version. Still have not seen it in blue however)

So basically, until they release a rep of the Navitimer II; then in order to make the Serie Special currently offered closest to the gen we must either a) Brush the case, which isn't that bad if you want to take everything apart, or b) Remove the Serie Speciale from the dial (either with paint...imho impossible, or change the dial to a gen dial) and change the caseback.

I'm going to try brushing mine. Although you guys say, the white Serie Speciale is way off anyways? The gens only came in a creme color not true white?

What about this dial:

With a mm or so trimming, this should work in the Serie Speciale case and movement, just it will look very vintage?

It wouldn't be economical to start replacing parts here and there.

My advice is to buy the black dial Fighters and brush it. Maybe you can practice on an old butter knife to get the technique right?

That way you can use the bracelet without worrying about its bling.

The things I have to remove to brush it were:

Bracelet
Crown
Pushers

Remove the movt and tape up the caseback if you're really fussy but block both sides of the stem tube with BluTac so no dust gets in.
