This might be a silly question, but, I have bought a PAM from Puretime the watch is 50m waterproof from the factory and tested etc. If I took it to a watchsmith would they be able to improve its waterproofness to a higher amount? Or is the 50m the limit?

Do you plan on going deeper than 150' on your next dive? For normal activity (in a pool, shower or less than ~15 feet deep snorkeling), the gaskets and seals should be sufficient if maintained.

The next step is if the materials and construction of the watch can withstand the pressure. For example, the construction of the 187 or 253 is made for diving and the pressure associated with it. Models like most Radiomirs or dressier Luminors are not suitable based merely on the sum of their parts.

So I guess, the answer is: if its made for it, that's one thing. If its not, then it never can be. Regardless of my rambling, I wouldn't dive with a rep no matter how much work was put into it. Get a Seiko, Luminox or a myriad of other well made divers for under $200 and send it back for warranty when the crystal pops off as you comb the Pacific floor.

50m just means it was tested to 5atm, which is pretty standard for a "waterproof" test. It's possible your watch is already capable of more, but just wasn't tested any further. It never hurts to go get it tested again, especially since I'm very skeptical whether TDs actually do the test in the first place, even at extra cost.

100% agree, Also what nalomb said! I have a friend of mine who is a hobbyist diver and the money and time he has invested in the sport to get his certification to 150 ft would lead me to believe that he could afford at least a new genuine Omega Dive watch from say Jomashop.

To add to your point, I wouldn't trust any chrono to be fully waterproof. There are just too many entryways for water to get in and it depends heavily on the tension of the pushers.

Not at silly question at all! I agree with what other member said if it's made for diving it'll have a much better chance of being waterproof. Personally I've went diving in most of my rep divers to 50ft with zero issues. Also snorkeling and this was straight from the factory but I'm a risk taker. TC makes a solid sub and I'd trust his to dive in any day.

Dove into the sea wearing my PAM508 which had been tested by PT (or was it WS?), no problems whatsoever.
