Maybe a replica sunglasses forum or a replica watch forum if you wear oakleys on your wrist AND THEY TELL TIME. Oh by the way hi nice to meet you.

I went through this task recently after I bought a pair of Oakley Frogskins and they were basically broken when I got them. I went back to the Oakley dealer and they said, "Yeah, that's just how they are. They all do that (arms won't stay on tightly). They are cheap." Well, uh, thanks. Thanks for that info.

I figured, if they are this shitty, I'll just buy the reps. Unfortunately, it is a craps-shoot. Some of them are completely off, and the ones that are close have slightly deformed logos or really badly painted logos.

As the welcoming committee mentioned, it is preferable (and safer) to find a good deal on the authentic glasses. I've seen them on eBay pretty cheap, and since the reps are not that impressive, it is pretty easy to tell if what you're bidding on is authentic.

Thank you for your help. I think I'm just going to buy some second hand ones!

I disagree with the point that all reps are bad for your eyes....Only yesterday i read a review of loads of different types of sunglasses, nearly all below £20 and some were £3. They were all tested for UV400 effectiveness, with even the cheapest ones being confirmed and being very highly rated.
Now i know that these would have been el cheapo (and not replicas) but it proves that it ain't expensive to properly UV coat sunglasses. Now my assumption would be that if even £3 sunglasses can be properly UV coated then surely reps can be too.

They can, but it will rub off very easily. I really can't understand why people would take a chance with their eyes - you can obtain very well made sunglasses for not an obscene amount of money. We're not talking about fashion here, we're talking about cancer and blindness.

Edit: To put it more in terms of the topic of this forum, would you trust a counterfeit submariner as your dive timer if you were actually going scuba diving? You'd be crazy to. Don't trust your health/life to black market products.

If all you do is wear them to look cool, rep glasses may be just fine keeping the sun from damaging your eyes. Or not. Who knows.

But if you wear them while doing anything active, well, I sure wouldn't do it.

The lenses could shatter, the temples could crack and become a projectile, the hinges could easily split, and so forth. There's more to glasses than the lens material.

It's your money, of course. Your eyes, too.

The "who knows" is the scary part to me. Unless you have the machinery at home for testing UV protection, how do you know if the coating has rubbed off, or even if this particular batch has any? Super risky IMO, when the potential damage is so high
