What sub just said. Sums it up quite well imo.

Yeah, pretty much. I think I need an AA meeting for what I have. I've got Stan trying to get me a blingin' rolex gmtIIc, and 3 other watches in the cart at Tony's site. I'm having an internal battle on whether to hit the buy button or not.

My point is you ain't going to find a 2500D for 1400 Euro last summer used. ;) If it is, you are a time traveler and that's a diamond in the rough.

The congress for time travellers will start 11th, last month in Monaco :lol1:

Or you could just look in the for sale section at this very site. There is a beloved member selling an awesome PO for just a little more than that watch went for!

Was this hobby meant for people to buy a 2500 rep watch? A gen used yatchmaster sells for 6800-7000. I mean if you are able to spend 2500 in one shot for a rep, then im sure you can save a little more cash and buy the used gen. Now if your a person that knows how to modify a rep (which im not)
and you buy part by part until u get a expensive franken thats a dfferent story, you went and built the watch little by little, but thats just my 2 cents.

R2, I understand your point. I think Omega has got themselves a diffrent price management system now. Since they've gotten out of the retail stores and started the botiques again were gonna start to see even higher prices as they begin to embark on exclusivity for thier brand.

In their favor is the way overpriced Rolex watches which gives them alot of room to move their prices higher while still being way below Rolex pricing structure.

If there was no name brand on either watch and we are just buying quality wise and being practial in luxury terms I think we would being seeing alot more POs then subs. Not in comparsion to looks but in quality and value vs. price.

I've been shopping for a gen, and I found that AD discounts have been lower this year than last. I discussed this issue with a member on WUS, and he suggested that this was because Richemont and Swatch have been keeping MSRPs fairly level, but have been squeezing ADs instead on their margins. I'm not sure how widespread this is, but I've certainly noticed smaller discounts at ADs and grey market dealers.

This hobby is meant for anyone to do what so ever they chose. 2.5k BTW is not a hell of a lot for top line rep. You can pay up to 20k for a J&W Patek.

Yes S4M, Omega are re-branding themselves up to a higher price point. Look at Speedie prices these days. Look at the fact they have stopped selling a quartz Seamaster. Not because it didn't sell, it did in large numbers but because it positions them below where they want to be. They don't want an affordable entry point. Not THAT affordable anyway. Never mind that it was a great and practical watch at a good price. That does not matter. To Omega it was holding them down.

Just my two-cents, but frankening brings a good middle ground between owning gen parts at a good price point, and replica watches which are good enough quality. In this hobby there is also something that you cannot get in the AD: modifying watches based on your vision for the watch. Want a genuine caseback, crystal, bezel, hands, dial, movement etc? Want a fantasy piece that you envisioned for a watch but couldn’t buy from an AD? Want a movement that’s inside 50k watches stuck inside a rep case? These are all possibilities and there is no limit to this hobby except the amount of money in your bank and creativity. I can buy/build 5 frankens for the price of a luxury stainless steel watch. One is going to get me more satisfaction with my money than the Rolex.
