Yeah, you don't hear much about them. Are they made by rolex, do they use their movements? Whats the deal with Tudor, I always wondered.

Tudor is made by rolex. But, a tudor sub does not use the same movement as a rolex sub (I think they use ETAs in Tudors but don't quote me on that). But, the hands look the same and fit ETAs, so they pop up in reps often.

They are much cheaper than rolex, and generally are not faked much although I have seen a few really nice ones. The tudor version of the daytona is particularly sweet.

Some Tudors are getting crazy expensive. Especially the "Military" version with snowflake hands. I had a MBW/WM replica of this particular watch. Here's portrayed with the Noobmariner.

I also wrote a review of that Tudor & made a cg shaping tutorial. For some reason it didn't raise much interest here. Maybe because it didn't say "ROLEX" on the dial, eh? ;)

Personally Ive seen some very nice Tudors at Excellent prices...I would think any Rolex ethusiast would want to own one of these since they sell for a reasonable price on a genuine Rolex product. Its a shame we dont see more of these on the boards, I dont think Ive seen many on any of the boards that I have frequented in the past, but I do know some die hard Rolex guys that have a couple of these as everyday beaters instead of wearing the Rollie....
All in all I think there a great little bang for the buck.

The cases are similar to Rolex models and often are sold with Rolex’s famous Oyster case. During the period when both Rolex and Tudor used acrylic crystals, the Tudor and Rolex models would often share a similar depth rating.

Many Tudor models up to the 1990’s were sold with Rolex signed bracelets and crowns also.

The Tudor line can be traced all the way back to the beginning of the 20th Century. The earliest Tudor I have owned dated to the 1930’s and used a caliber 59 movement, also used in the Canadian market Rolex’s.

Over the years various models have been produced in an attempt to increase the brand’s market presence. The most popular model Tudor has produced is most likely the Submariner. Early models used a modified Fleurier 350 caliber, branded the Tudor 390 caliber. These are often mistaken as Rolex movements as they shared a similar rotor winding device.

During the mid to late 1960’s Rolex switched to another manufacturer, ETA to supply the base movements for their watches. These Early Submariners have become quite collectible. The increase in value has led to a large quantity of fakes penetrating the market. These are being produced in the Far East and are easily spotted upon close examination along with some investigation into what the real model should look like.

Other popular models are the older Chronographs as well as the Ranger and Ranger 2 models, which rode the wave of market demand created by the Rolex Explorer 1, reference 1016. Both watches share a similar dial configuration.

So are these watches considered “real Rolex’s?â€

Tudor

Been wearing Pams for the past 6 or 7 months and thought about 'switching' to a different style/brand watch. I had -HAD to have a Rolex Tudor Tiger Chrono....HAD TO....bought one and I hated it. It looked freakishly small on me. Some people have written folk songs about their love for these watches. I'll stick with the bigger watches from here on out

Im kind of fond of the california dial models myself but would be a bit worried about a watch that small. Having a pretty small wrist to begin with I wouldnt want anything much smaller than the Explorer II that I currently wear. I believe the Tudors with the California dial are around a 38mm which is probably gonna look stupid on me anyway...It would likely look great on a woman though.

Got a Princess Date for my wife a couple of days ago, it's a swiss eta movement, not a very common rep !
I call them the Poor Mans Rolex ;-)

I like Tudor a lot, I would wear a Tudor over a Rolex any day !

Replica Tudors

There are replica Tudors. They use the same ETA movements with replica Rolex engraving, and of course the replica casing and bracelet. ...plenty of them in the market.

Do you mean genuine ( sorry I'm still a newbie) ? I don't know, but I don't think so. It's men's size.
