Hey guys,

Before I came to RWI, I had absolutely no clue about Panerai. Well, I still don't really aside from being able to identify a few models. To me there seems to be literally hundreds of models, that all look the same :wacko:

Anyway, a few have really caught my eye, like the 111, 005, 127 etc and I'm looking to pick some of these up very soon. However, I'm not too sure what to go for, because every model i'm interested in seems to have a letter after the model # and I have no clue what these mean. Are they just upgraded versions of the rep, or do they correspond to a gen? Is the K same as the M, but with a brown leather strap as opposed to rubber.....? :wacko: I have no idea at all!! Also, is it just me, or have I seen people changing the model # of their Pams, by just swapping in a different dial? (I'm sure I have seen one like this in the sales section)

So, as Pams (to me at least) all look pretty much the same as each other, I am thinking of getting this one from Narikaa http://www.dropbox.com/gallery/2644807/1//Narikaa%20Gallery/MENS%20WATCHES?h=a09530&p=1#gallery:24. (it dosen't say in his album what model this is.... Anyone???) That way I can "test drive" it so to speak, before parting with the serious $$ to decide if Pams wear well on me, or not.

So guys, any help, advice, insight or recommendations from those of you in the know, on what the best Pams to get are would be most welcome! :)

Careful.....once you go Pam you NEVER go back!

Enter a whole new addiction.

Take Coldi's advice and go for the 005. If you can find one.

Thanks for that COLDI, I would never have guessed that in a trillion years! lol So does that mean there is no difference between say a 005J and a 005K apart from the year it (or the gen) was made?

Oh, and the 005, sure is a nice watch!

Take Coldi's advice and go for the 005. If you can find one.

Are they that hard to get hold of?

Yes, the 005K is nice. An 005 or one of the new 111s is a good choice.

The letter indicates the production year.
For example,

A=1998
B=1999
C=2000
D=2001
E=2002
F=2003
G=2004
H=2005
I=2006
J=2007
K=2008

Yes, they all can look very similar. There is a very useful spreadsheet that can be found in this thread----> http://forum.replica-watch.info/vb/showthread.php/pam-spreadsheet-reincarnated-62838

Good Luck! Run away now before you end up with about 15 PAMs and enough parts to build 10 more. :)

Right after my first purchased pam (month ago?) from coldi I'm already three grand deep and still don't know the answer to, "what's a Pam?"

To me Pam is like Meth. An addictive drug that has taken the Rep world by storm.

Friends don't let friends do Pam.

005k gets my vote..virtually perfect. Made by the H factory. Feels more quality then the other reps I own. Absolute class, pure simplicity Most have no idea what it is.

If you ask a kindergartner to draw a picture of a clock, he/she will draw a Pam. They make 1,239.3 models which all look basically the same. They will use a different movement retainer ring and "viola"- it's an entirely new model!
And yet, people love and crave them.
I don't get it.

And, yes... I have 2 and I love them very much. :-(

I'm with Levelmanroger: there's no rhyme or reason for their insidious addictive quality, but it happens anyway. I'd never heard of PAMs until I got here, now I'm not interested in anything else (except B&R). They just kinda get under your skin. Simple, beautiful, classic, interesting..... My first was a 112, the simplest of them all, and it remains one of my favorites--until the postman arrived today with my new 126. Whoooeeeeee..... I see what the fuss is about. What a great watch!

Thanks for that info! Now I know why that guy had over a dozen Pams that all looked the same! :lolcina:

I agree, that 005 is stunning, but what is H factory, and is that considered the best? Also how do you know which dealers have them? (H Factory Pams) Jeez, sorry for asking such Noob questions!! :lolcina:

OK I will bite - Why is a PANerai nicknamed a PAM? Perhaps the "N" key didn't work when someone started posting info on them? Cheers JTBear

They do look the same, but there are quite a few different styles.
Of course you will need a polished one, a black one, a titanium one, a submersible one, a 47mm one, a chrono one, a destro one.................
:)
