End link fitment, especially SEL's are a dead giveaway. CG's are too on an unworked case. No one gets them right. Non-gen hands never look right either to me.

First pearl than bracelet and for now I have a special eye for the hands. Since that seems one of the last big tells for me if someone has a TC watch with gen insert.
hour markers, pearl and CG's. Feel is a whole other factor, and honestly the only "tell" I have been called out on by others who are not into reps

If it's as good as a $200+ rep, I don't look for tells. I look for conversation with someone who likes watches and either has a nice Gen or a nice rep.
However, if you're talking about making a purchase and verifying a watch, I don't care what I look at first, as long as I look at everything. Twice.

I actually LOVE it when someone calls me out. It usually means that you have a very pleasant conversation about to arise. If people know enough to call out our super reps, they know A LOT about watches, and interesting convo awaits
I have been almost called out. By a close friend and a family member. I'm the only one into reps.

If it is ceramic, then without doubt the insert. Paint mods will never make up for the font, depth etc. Sel's on just about anything else is a tell too. As mentioned, often too perfect.
I simply say "nice watch" and wait for a reaction. Body language says it all. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it must be a duck. Plenty of ducks here in my part of town. :coax:
Lol that too. I gotta turn over a new leaf soon. My fiance wants me to stop being a bully to strangers as my new years resolution. That means I only have 4 days of mayhem left.
As of January 1st, it's gonna be nothing more than "nice watch" from me. Ugh.

If I only look at the Watch, the first tell is probably the pearl. Then, fat crown guards on non-ceramic Sub. Then, a global feeling about the whole Watch. Maybe also the cyclop x1.5 only. I'm unable to be sure from a detail like the font or SEL.
But before the first look at the Watch, the look at the guy who wears it.

The pearl, the dial (clarity of the fonts, the markers), the datewheel, and the finish on the bracelet...all this is done in a matter of seconds, LOL!
