It's fine to say wear whatever you want and don't worry what any one else thinks, but that really depends on what you do. I work with a partner that wears a shitty rep of a Cartier bb, and if he did ever meet with a client that knows watches, I think it sends the wrong message. In my view, i am selling my legal services and people are hiring me based on first impressions. I can easily see clients being turned off by a lawyer with a fake watch--because if your watch is "fake" what else about you is fake. I personally don't judge people by the watch or their wrist and could care less if a watch is gen or rep, but other people do care about these things and i cant afford to bet my income on what other people think or believe. If you're in a field where image counts—and many are—then presentation isn't just about ego, it's about trust. There are actually some decent job leads that take this kind of thing into account, especially for overseas roles.
I’d suggest starting
right here, where you can find solid options that emphasize professionalism and first impressions.
