My nephew loves watches just like his Tía. I want to gift him a decent watch. What is the best dress watch in your (opinion) for a child? Just an FYI he takes very good care of his things and even a plastic $10 my sister got him on Amazon. Thanks for your input in advance.

Getting a present for a nephew is a nice gesture in principle.

On safety grounds alone, I personally don’t like the idea of children wearing (supposedly) 10k or whatever high end luxury watches. So, I would stay clear of the typical rep watches sold by TDs.

On a personal note, I think a child walking around in a dress Patek (or whatever) would look ridiculous.

How about getting him a G-shock?

Does it have to be a dress watch?

If so, maybe a seiko from eBay?

totally agree with you, i would give him an indestructible G-Shock, or if you really want to go automatic, a seiko or a Hamilton, (even if it's already too much for a "kid", how hold is he?

I guess that’s what I meant. Not like a crazy rep watch or anything just something more dressy for special occasions.

A G Shock is a good call but a chunky watch for a small kid. Maybe your newphew is a fat kid and can pull it off. If you are looking for a dress watch there is nothing wrong with a good Timex for a good. Unless his dad is a rapper, I’d stay away from anything that even remotely looks expensive.

Have you looked Citizen Ecodrive watches? Quartz is the best choice if you want something that just works and don't have special interest to mechanical watches. Ecodrive does not need battery changes and Citizen makes quality that will last.

I hope that when you say "dress watch" you mean "a watch that is not too sporty or childish".
Is not healthy for the mind of a child to be "formal" without having the ability to understand why anyone choose
to dress like this.
Has to do with rules and compromises that we have choose to accept but no one can assure us that it
is healthy to think like this or that will needed the years that come.

So, you need a good quality watch, for a youngster that taking care of his staff.
You have to see what Shinola have for him.
Truly a "premium" watch that can be worn by a young man, at normal prices.

If you think that are pricey, check their design to have a clue on what you're looking for.

ps; i was take a look at shinola, there are not as affordable as i thought. I would think it again for someone
under 8-10 years old.

Althought there are some on sale prices and many used as new at really nice prices.

I would rather not get into child raising opinions or techniques.

This was merely a question to get opinions on what would fit a smaller wrist for a child for more special occasions like plays, ceremonies presentations etc. that wasn’t just the typical plastic or rubber options; especially, with the holidays around the corner. He loves getting dressed up and loves watches. I want to encourage that and how to appreciate a timepiece.

Thank you for your input on Shinola watches. I will take those into consideration.

Growing up my Uncle has a Casio with a calculator and I always loved it. That being said I did not get him the calculator watch but I ended up getting him the following watch:
Casio A500WGA-1D

This was mainly because he had me draw a world map on his backpack for his first day of school. I think either way he’ll love the watch.
