I either see Omega or Rolex commonly. Mostly Rolex subs and datejusts. I've seen one pepsi 1675, and one polar explorer II.

If its an omega its usually an SMP.

Last time I was in Vegas I saw more APs than any other brand...

Yeah I know exactly what you mean. I see so many submariners on a daily basis where I live. The thing that annoys me is that they're worn by people who just have them to own a Rolex just like they own the cheapest BMW or Mercedes Benz With no features what do ever just to have the name. It's just annoying how a lot of the people don't have their own style and can't go spend the 8K on some other time piece perhaps one that suits them better, but I'm sure they fear others not knowing what an iwc is or any other brand that isn't Rolex.

MAny people buy rolexes just to look "cool" or "rich" or whaterver. Me, I just love the looks and feel of the Sub. I own other watches, but always tend to wearr the Sub. It the watch I always wanted when I was little, was the first watch I worked on before becoming a watchmaker, and is the one Jaques Cousteau wore. Others may have different reasons for wearing ROllies, but for me the Sub is just the king off wristwear. Not the new ones, but the ones I remember from my younger days. Since I can't afford the gens of that era, I will live with reps, which is ffine by me, since the older gen Rollexes had wonky movements and kept time for Sh*t. My reps ALL keep better time.

Yeah the worst is when you compliment on a nice sub or dssd or sometimes even a date just and the person wearing it just says "thanks it a Rolex". It's kind of like WHAT THE ****. Those are the type of people who just wear a Rolex because it says Rolex

I like Rolex but damn... If the stereotypical douche mentality on trf represents the general population of Rolex wearers it kinda ruins the brand for me. Not enough to ruin the design which is why I own a gen but damn I hate being tied to those a-holes.

If you're a true Rolex fan then where that shit with pride. Just know a little something about your watch and don't be a cocky asshole about it. Philly if you have a gen and you love it wear it happily :) just don't be that guy who says "IT'S A ROLEX" every chance he gets just to hear him self brag! My father has a few gens and his favorite is a shitty beaten up date just with diamond insert. He absolutely loves that watch and wouldn't trade it for the world. He doesn't assume it makes him better then everyone else because of it. And he sure as hell knows a thing or two about all of his watches. And when some one comments on it he simply says thank you very much and might have a small chat about what it means to him but he never just says "IT'S A ROLEX!" because to him the brand has no value anymore the watch it's self is the true gem.

most people buy rolexes for the same reason why most people buy BMW or Benz, because its "cool", makes them look "rich"....and yet they dont understand the science behind either

This is so true! When choosing company cars, guys at work would rather have a entry level BMW 318 than an Insignia VXR or top of the line Megane sport.

They do it just because "its a BMW..." because they think it gives then status or makes them look sharp. But in reality everyone just thinks they are an idiot because they're so in your face about how amazing their 318 is.

The same applies to watches, my boss has 'flashy wrist syndrome' where he will constantly move his wrist or adjust his cuff so that his Carerra is out for all to see. He also drives a BMW.

Now you've got me started on BMW drivers and that's a whole other kettle of fish...

seriously, I see your point, and I follow you guys as far as being a total watch nut myself.

in the world out there though, there are people that buy a nice sub or datejust because they want a new watch and they can afford a rolex.
why do they choose rolex? -well, I guess if you are suddenly in a position where they are nolonger spending all their money on dipers and strollers and wedding stuff, they might tell themself that it might be time to get a "nice" watch. hmmmmm what can I think of, one thinks?
that rolex thing is a nice watch, I know that much! and they go get a rolex.

at least I honour these for wanting in on watches more than some dude that insists that seiko is much more reliable and nicer than rolex. (it's only more reliable :) )

ofcourse there are clowns that wear rolexes only to look cool or rich, but that goes for both reps and gens!

in our little world here we read so much about watches every day, we find it obvious that these gen owners are owning these watches for all the wrong reasons, as they often know less about their watch than we do here. however if buying the cheaper end stuff from a brand (be it car or watch or anything else) makes you a wannabe, then who are these cheaper models made for? what do you have to do to pull of wearing it without being a wannabe?

now all this said in favor of some gen owners, lets just generalize slightly and say this; most of the genowners on TRF are pretty full of themselves - god I don't like that place. :asshat:

I've been wearing Rolexes since 1977 and the only difference between me and you guys is I don't give a shit. Nobody ever asks me what I'm wearing, ever!

When I see these guys wearing huge gold Hublots, oversized Pam ex-pocket watches or any of the other ugly extra large pieces of tacky, jewelry looking, sh*t watches, I think about what azzholes they are trying to show off their monster wrist clocks cause they all have such small d*cks that they've got to overcompensate for that shrunken pee-pee.

Of course, that's just my humble opinion. :p

I wear Rolex because it's timeless, classy, and understated elegance.
Bought my first gen as a symbol that I'd "made it" - both to myself and others. Of course, now that I'm older I realize that "made it" means a very different thing than it did in my 20's.

And TRF sucks. I like it here.

LOL

Having a small wrist... nothin has fit better than my old genestein IWC XVI (oh I miss that watch) or a Rolex, especially my newly acquired polar explorer II. I've tried a ton of PAMs and while I do love them they fit too big (like pants that are an inch too long).

I also sometimes felt even douchier as they are bigger than your average watch. It didn't quiet remind me of the epic douche bagism of 47mm and up on a skinny dude though.

As fakemaster once said.... The watch is an accessory to your wardrobe. It should never be the focal point or a distraction when some first sees you.

Edit: oh.. and I wear my explorer II on a NATO. Nobody has ever noticed its a Rolex before. I love it.
