What is important in a movement? Good replication or serviceability? Why?

Theoretically yes…but i have no clue where to find such a part
Yup, @xZeroCoolx and I collaborated on a project to make a conversion mod for the vs3235 to remove the ghost date.

But going forward VSF has just released an update to their OP and No-Date 41mm sub, to fix the ghost date position (and change the engraving from 3235 to 3230). I have to admit it felt pretty good for VSF to clone the mod that we designed (something something highest form of flattery). But if you have a legacy vs3235 that you want to convert to a 3230, then I have a few parts to spare, and ZeroCool has the CAD files and a fiber laser machine to make more if needed.

You seem to have some sort of bias that buying a clone movement is with the intention of "fooling someone", this is not at case, at least not for me. I throw in a dozen gen parts into my 4130 not because I want to fool someone. In fact, if I want to show off, I just simply wear my gens. The reason behind is firstly I really love the 4130, secondly, I'd love to know how it goes if I change the key parts, like balance, wheel train etc and let them work with the rep parts, how accurately can it go compared with a gen movement.

I think it’s much better to service an issued movement than to buy a new one, even if price is lower.
I’ve bought some new clone movements and it seems to be always overlubricated, with ash, dirty and even fingerprint on movement’s parts! A disaster

But for me one of the goals of the rep game is to achieve a watch that is as close to gen as possible, not to fool anyone but well, just because! That for me is the challenge, so when the SuperClone Rolex movements arrived I was super excited... imagine having a virtually identical movement to gen in your watch and with a Gen Balance thrown in you have a $1000 watch that is arguably as good as a $20000 watch, that to me is incredible!

These are very interesting thoughts. I still think that the intention (from the factory's perspective) of clone movements is to fool someone. Just because the main target of reps are not the nerds that lurk in forums like RWI but are people who want to brag with a Rolex / PP / etc. but can't or won't afford it.

But at the same time there are good reasons for enthusiasts to want a clone movement and I comes down to personal preferences and perspectives on this hobby.

Thanks for your insights on this!

The factories do this is simply because of demand and supply, the only thing that crosses their mind is money. I can assure you when they decide to clone any moment, the mindset “I want to fool someone” not even in the agenda.

That's more or less what I meant: The main market for these watches are people who want to fool others (or themselves) and the factories deliver.

It is not necessarily about fooling...

Sorry that you have such kind of mindset. Maybe in your world, everything is about fooling, but it is not. Some people outside RWI can also be happy and feel good to have a clone movement without showing it to anybody, and don't say they are fooling themselves, they know this is a rep, not the real thing, so this is not fooling.
